The Mallrats scene is always right where my mind goes.
I liked this episode a lot! Yes, it wasn't on the same level as the previous two, but this was clearly setting up the stories of the rest of the season.
Sad to see Elnor seem to go but
Also, it's pretty clear they are setting Jurati to be the new Borg Queen we saw on the Stargazer.
I'm also going to bet that Rios is going to remain in the 21st century and Laris (somehow) is a Watcher given we know she somehow ends up in LA with the gang.

There is a scene from the trailer featuring Elnor that we actually haven't seen yet (it's quick but you can tell it hasn't aired yet because of the outfits Seven and Raffi are wearing in the background). So he'll be back, but whether that means he comes back to life or a flash in Picard's mind caused by Q, we'll see.

Do you wear glasses? Have an astigmatism or amblyopia? I have all three and because of that it's actually impossible for me to see those 3D picture things (mostly because of the amblyopia (lazy eye.) I wish those things, or the books they made with them, said that somewhere on them because it would've saved me quite a bit of grief and headache in highschool. I actually thought I had a brain tumor or something and I was broken.
(Turns out, I guess I did have the tumor so I digress.)
That's my thoughts, Q manipulated this, he specifically tells Picard he wouldn't have to do this alone and since Q was name dropping episodes and being Deadpool levels of Meta he knew who the "main cast" currently is and who to manipulate.
God, I know people liked that moment from Q but it was just too fourth wall breaking. Cochrane saying "so you're astronauts on some kind of star trek?" I can rationalize as he's actually talking like a person if maybe a bit oddly. Q is literally citing the name of an episode and likening Picard's behavior in it to how he is now. Ugh.
Didn't think of that. Yeah, you'd think it'd be one of the things Seven would have looked up while in her office and trying to suss out what was going on. Maybe without some of her remaining Borg hardware she's missing some aspects of her logic and thinking skills?
That *almost* makes sense. I had figured it was some forested area between San Fran and LA but when we see the establishing shots of the ship and the forest it's night while being daytime in the LA scenes. But crashing in the vineyard doesn't make much sense as wouldn't they draw attention from the 21st century Picards living there at some point? Maybe they're just in some forest in France.
(And the nerd in me then wonders if the transporters on the ship could beam someone from France to LA because there's no direct shot between the two places because of the curvature of the Earth. I guess they could beam "through" the Earth but that seems like it'd have complications on it's own. Then I realize I'm thinking about it and more logically and "scientifically" that Kurtman and Co. likely are.)

I've had glasses for only the last 6 years, but couldn't see those things long before I needed the glasses.
That is literally the only thing I actually liked about that episode. And sorry if it offends you but showing some of the brutality of horrific event (and being clear in the presentation these are horrific events) does impact viewers in a much more visceral and realistic way.
You can make the same argument about is Spielberg's opening to Saving Private Ryan more effective than what the Longest Day showed? Both are good for their time, but Spielberg's is vastly more effective. It's not even close.

Ah. Still, there could just be some quirk in your eye that makes it impossible for you to see them but wasn't severe enough to impact your vision to need glasses until recently.
I have the same problem! If you have a lazy eye and/or astigmatism it creates double vision, so it makes it impossible for the pictures to line up and create the 3d image by unfocusing and crossing your eyes. The glasses themselves wouldn't be the cause, more of a possible indicator, if you have glasses for that reason. My prescription attempts to correct the angle of my slightly lazy eye, but if my eyes are tired it makes my face hurt a bit. It's also hard for me to watch 3d movies until my eyes muscles relax.
On the slingshot thing, the only aspect I didn't like was that it showed it actually disappearing "then" and appearing "now" by going through an actual tunnel or something, and that's not how I ever thought of it working or looking.
I thought of it being more like how you could theoretically time-travel to the future by going around a black hole (well, really, any object with high mass but a black hole would make the change more significant) and you wouldn't even need to be going the speed of light or any major speed to do it, just fast enough to stay out of the black hole's event horizon. Time moves faster closer to a massive object so if you spent a few minutes around a black hole days, months or years could pass outside of it, you wouldn't disappear around the hole and show up in the future you'd just spend time around the hole, come out and it'd be the future. Relativity 101.
With the slingshot around the sun thing, that's how I thought of it working, only because they're going warp speeds, subspace and all that nonsense they're able to control whether they're going to the future or past and at least with ST:IV there was a "breakaway from orbit" moment that was apparently critical to getting you to arrive when you wanted to.
But, again, I'm thinking about it more than Kurtzman and Co. did and I guess make the ship disappear and reappear through an actual portal hand-feeds things to audiences watching this on their phones better.

I have a graduate degree and even I don't follow that.

Yeah, that's the angle I was kind of going for, glasses or not if he had some kind of astigmatism or lazy eye (maybe not enough for him to need glasses until now) then it'd be impossible to see the pictures because to see it you have to do the very thing you're trying to prevent your eyes from doing on their own but just in a disorganized way to make seeing the pictures possible.
Wearing glasses wasn't the indicator, if you're wearing glasses because of myopia/hyperopia (near/far sightedness) then your eyes aren't screwed up enough to not see the picture but enough you need glasses to function. Usually those people can just take the glasses off and see the picture. (The need/uneed for the glasses probably depending on which one they had.)
But astigmatism? Lazy eye? Forget it, you ain't seeing the damn schooner.
Time moves faster the closer you are to a massive object, we actually have to account for this with things like GPS satellites because they're far enough away from the Earth to be less effected by its gravity so time moves different for them (plus the speed they're moving changes time too.)
Go near a black hole for you time would seem normal but someone observing you from outside the black hole's influence would see you moving slowly. If you were to look out you'd see events moving quickly. Stronger the gravity, stronger the difference.
Work out the difference between "your" time and "their" time, spend as much time as you need around the black hole, come out of it, you're in the future but never really left the present. Relativity.
I understand the general process, and gravity and relativity. What I don't follow is how your describing it as a visual in a SF action/adventure TV show.
In the middle of show that's a lot of dialog to sort through. So, I prefer The Voyage Home method. Call it dumbing down if you like.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but The Watchers could be who Gary Seven works for. He'd be old, but he could still be alive in 2024.
