The problem with the Borg, as I believe @Sci noted, is that early on they were just monsters. Which is fine but if they come back they cannot remain monsters. Star Trek is all about exploring new life and new civilizations and then have a civilization that all you do is destroy like a zombie horde is pretty much antithetical to Star Trek at its core.
The Borg were constantly being changed throughout their TNG appearances anyway. In Q Who, there was no talk of assimilation, the Borg only wanted technology, period. They had no interest in people at all, indeed it was implied the Borg are actually bred and grown on the ships, the Borg nursery was originally intended to be infant Borg, not babies who were assimilated.
Indeed, even introducing the concept of assimilation in TBOBW, Part 1 treated the very concept of turning Picard into a Borg as a unique thing that has only been done this once. It was Part 2 which suddenly and abruptly talks about assimilation being SOP for the Borg which it then became in all the Borg's subsequent appearances in the franchise. Really, the Queen is just the result of the continuing evolution of the Borg, which started when they were brought back in TBOBW.
Mind you, given the Borg were originally intended to be insects before the budget prevented that from happening, one could argue the Queen is more in line with the original concept than what we got in Q Who anyway.

I saw elsewhere that we see some skulls of DS9 characters in this episode...I was presuming it was just Dukat's. But I guess the Negus also paid the ultimate price.
Perhaps he IS Loki. He can change his appearance, he's full of...mischief.

Picard is targetted squarely at our demographic: mostly fans in their 40s. So I'll be surprised if they don't stick to DS9 Martok.
Has a great horror feel, especially with the Borg queen dragging herself on the ground with just the torso. The Borg queen feels terrifying in that scene.
It's probably intentionally evocative of this, but the shot of the Borg Queen hanging in front of the lit up warp core of the La Sirena has a very Christ on the cross in front of stained glass windows sort of look to it.
Cool scene with the Queen crawling after Agnes across the floor. Very Terminator-esque. And the way the Queen so easily seized control of the La Sirena's systems like her alternate version did the fleet is really impressive and terrifying. They've done a good job of making the Borg intimidating again, even if it's just the Queen so far.
I have a feeling the trade-off for whatever restoration of the timeline they make is going to include a restoration of the Borg as a galactic threat again. Something like Q will say the Borg are the galactic clearing house that assimilates a species once it's grown too large so that other smaller nascent species will have a chance to grow instead. The Borg are a brutal but necessary part of maintaining the galactic ecosystem, which is why Q told his son not to mess with the Borg.

The only way it could have been better, imo, if she were confronting Seven instead of Agnes.
