What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Doctor Pulaski's best thing happen to TNG, Crusher shouldn't come back and replace her. Only few special guest appearances would be fine.

TNG is weakest series out of "Classic" franchise.

Kirk's death in Generations was satisfactory.

My grandpa: Rise of DS9's popularity was the reason why we got shows like Discovery. (He dislikes DS9 and Discovery strongly)
Additional:
Jadzia-center episodes are most boring episodes in DS9.
Ezri is better than Jadzia.

Kazon is awesome race and should continue appearances in Voyager. Prefer them over Klingon.

Let He Who Is Without Sin... is Worf's best episode.
Worf should stand by his honour, of duty, not love in Change of Heart; the story goes flow better if Jadzia die in this episode rather than whimsical death in Tears of the Prophets.

If we get another prequel, I’d rather explore that “lost era” between The Undiscovered Country and Encounter at Farpoint. See how the Federation and Starfleet transitioned from the era of Kirk and Spock to the era of Picard, Sisko and Janeway.

But, but, but, what about the time between ENT and SNWs, that is a fair stretch of time too. Or between PIC and future DISC, it is even longer with big, really big changes to flesh out. I cannot choose!

High praise!

Talk about controversial. You might be the first person I've ever seen make either statement.

My dad and I still poke fun at VOY for how large Kazon space was, how long it took VOY to get out of it, and then they came back again!

Pulaski - totally agree. After she got over her Data hate. Wish she had stayed.

TNG weakest - NOOOOOOOO!!!!!

DS9 lead to Disco. I love DS9, not so much Disco, but following a recent rewatch of DS9 I have to agree. It started Dark Trek, even if on the whole it did it well.

like how Nolan’s Batman films or The Matrix are pretty good but led to all sorts of crap trying to capture their darkness or style. Not calling all Disco crap btw.

With Strange New Worlds coming out, I wouldn’t have a second series focus on an Enterprise.

That being said, it could be cool to do a series in that era between the TOS films and TNG and feature the Enterprise-B with Alan Ruck’s Captain John Harriman.

Ruck’s a great actor, and there’s a lot of built in character baggage for him, from trying to both live up to Kirk’s legacy, and to live with his guilt over Kirk’s dying on his watch during the B’s maiden voyage.

I don’t think a new show in that time period would have to be set on one of that eras two Enterprises.

I agree with this. But not because DS9 is “dark”. I think it’s more because the powers that be decided serialization was the only way to go so they took how DS9 did it and kicked it up a notch. But with the short seasons they aren’t able to develop more than 2-3 characters where DS9 was able to develop all the main cast.

‪‪Absolutely. ‪‪I was just saying that ‪‪I would enjoy appearances of the Enterprise-B, or major members of their crew being recurring players in a show set in that era, but would personally prefer that it not be made the focus.

‪‪I wasn’t trying to suggest it was a forgone conclusion or anything.

Agreed. Especially since it's a streaming series, and is therefore not beholden to the tv time limit of about 40 minutes. They can easily add a few extra character beats and scenes to bring the episode time to a full hour.

(To be fair, DISCOVERY has gotten better at taking advantage of the lack of time constraints that come with a streaming show.)

I don’t think shorter seasons let’s Disco off the hook for not developing characters. Many movies successfully develop more characters than Disco has managed.

The problem Discovery has is it's still rather plot-heavy. Most modern serialized dramas are fully serialized, meaning a lot of the middle of the season just sort of has the characters hang out and not do that much. But nearly every Discovery episode (after the first season) has a coherent beginning, middle, and ending. Add to this they have eschewed setting up an entire episode from the POV of someone like Saru or Tilly and we just don't get the time to focus on anyone.

Everyone's mad because Owo, Detmer and that other guy don't ever do anything because they're used to ensemble shows. Discovery isn't that, they're glorified extras like Uhura was in TOS.
I'm not a fan of glorified recurring extras.

GIVE THEM MORE SCREEN TIME!

More dedicated episodes to them.

Ensemble Shows FTW!

Uhura should've had more episodes and stories dedicated to her background.

Same with Sulu, Chekov, etc.

The show "LOST" was good in the fact that it was a ensemble show that tried to fill in the background story of nearly everybody on the plane.

They tried to give as many characters depth, history, & motivations for their actions.
