DC's "Naomi" coming to CW from Ava Duvernay

So she is from Earth-29 and Bizzarro just shows up in Superman & Lois and is traditionally from Earth-29 in the comics.

They're just messing with us though and there's no connection right?

Earth-29 wasn't introduced until 2014, apparently. Bizarro is traditionally portrayed as an artificial duplicate of Superman, usually one created by Lex Luthor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bizarro

I stand corrected then. I guess I've just had Earth-29 Bizarro stuck in my head since Crisis happened and people were talking about the 'other earths' from a comics perspective. Is the whole Bizarro-world now the accepted 'origin' or Bizarro from the comics or is that just an alternate Bizarro separate from the original clone one?

Not sure were it stands. Seems to be both.

I'm just watched the second episode, so I skipped to the end of the thread, but I do have a couple things I'm kinda of confused by, and I was wondering if they address.
How is it that Superman is both real and a comic book character in this world? Has he been around for decades and someone ran into him and was inspired to create the comics?
Are all DC comics real, or just Superman? Naomi didn't seem familiar with Thanagarians, but I would think someone who was as big of a Superman fan as she is would be familiar with Hawkman if he existed in this world's comics?
Do Thanagarians not have natural wings in this world or did lose his and get them replace with the metal ones? The shows have made bigger changes, so Thanagarians only having artificial wings wouldn't be an issue.

He isn't.
It's now been revealed that Naomi and the other superpowered characters come from a parallel Earth, Earth-29. So presumably Superman also comes from a parallel Earth, one where he's real, even though he's a fictional character on the Earth where Naomi grew up. It's similar to how Superman was a fictional character on Black Lightning's Earth before the Crisis merged it with Earth-1 and Earth-38.

Presumably her Earth's version of DC Comics doesn't include Hawkman.

We don't know yet.

Thanagarian wings are usually artificial and composed of Nth metal. There may have been a few versions of Hawkman where the wings are natural.

Oh, most of the versions I've seen the appeared to be natural, but I've only seen them in the TV shows.

Hawkman of Thanagar (the Silver Age to present Hawkman) has always had artificial wings. I believe the same might have been true for the Golden Age version but I am not 100% certain on that. They used to look more "feathery" but have been drawn as more metallic in recent years. He used to be able to remove his wings--they were a apart of that strap he wears around his torso; but, there are versions in which the Nth metal is a part of him and the wings emerge directly from his body--as appears to be the case in this show from what I've seen.

Thanks! I didn't know that!

Yep, the GA Hawkman has the strap on wings too.

This is interesting to me. I don't know that I've ever read a Hawk-person comic in my life, but I always assumed the wings were natural. What, DC figured people with wings were just too unrealistic?

The original Hawkman and Hawkgirl were humans, the reincarnations of an Egyptian prince and his consort, so there was no reason they'd have natural wings. Hawkman/Carter Hall invented his costume and wings using anti-gravity "Nth metal." Like any superhero of the day, he had to be able to pass for an ordinary civilian until he donned his costume. And I'd say they figured people with retractable wings were indeed too unrealistic.

When Hawkman and Hawkgirl were reinvented for the Silver Age, they became aliens from Thanagar, but the Nth-metal artificial wings remained, as the standard equipment of Thanagarian Hawk-police.

There's never been, to my knowledge, a comics version of Hawkman to have natural wings, but there has been a comics version of Hawkgirl with natural wings: The post-Flashpoint Earth 2 character of Kendra Munoz-Saunders.

I may be misremembering, but did Hawkgirl and the other Thanagarians in the Justice League animated series have natural wings? Can't think of a time we saw them without their wings.

I can't believe this thread hasn't been updated this week. The most recent episode was not really of the same calibre as the previous ones, but there was still some stuff to discuss.

I'm afraid the show hasn't grown on me. The lead, while moderately appealing, shows little range or depth and doesn't engage me. Her friends are just annoying and pointless. And while I do have some curiosity about the backstory they're gradually doling out, I don't think that alone is enough to keep me around. I think I might be done.
