My New Boyfriend isnt a Trekkie

Re: Dating a non-trekkie

Perhaps some episodes of TNG that show off Patrick Stewart's imense acting ability. Chain of Command is one of the episodes that my wife - a non-fan - looks at and says "wow."

But seriously, if he respects you and your interests - even though they may be different than his - then don't worry about converting him. There's no reason why a mixed relationship like this can't work.

Re: Dating a non-trekkie

Oh yes we are!

Thank the Great Bird my wife was a Trekkie when I met her.
I've got a friends who married a "mundane" and it's been nothing but trouble. One guy's wife won't even allow hin to watch it when she's in the house - they're getting divorced now.

The trouble with that marriage is not Trek vs nonTrek. The trouble is the "won't even allow hin (sic)" part. Subject matter is irrelevant.

Different likes and dislikes are pretty normal. As long as you each are ok with that. If he wants to give it a look, then by all means give it a try. But I wouldn't force the issue.

I'm kind-of seeing someone who's a partial TOS fan long-distance from Grants' Pass Oregon. My suggestion - let it be. Let things develop naturally. Perhaps adding them as a character in your fan fiction as a complement might be the way to go. Go to Trek movies on your own & leave the door open for them to invite themselves along without seeming like your nose-is-put-out-of-joint if your prospective significant other doesn't warm to the idea right away.

Thanks to those who actually made suggestions, rather than giving a ramble of their own experiences.

I never mentioned i wanted 'convert' this boi. Just show him something of my world.

And for those who assumed we are boy/girl. Get with the programme.

For those who suggested TOS, please re-read my initial post!

I think First Contact is the best way to go!

Cheers

Well unless you state otherwise how is anyone supposed to know? we're not psychic, the majority of people on the planet are heterosexual so unless someone tells me otherwise that is what i'll assume the person to be. A poster could have the title of 'iamgay' but it doesn't necessarily mean they are  and to be quite frank I never even looked at your board name when replying.

Well what a sheltered life you live if you think 'the majority of the planet is heterosexual'.

In my world we call the assumption that everyone is straight until told otherwise 'heterosexism', which is just as insulting as sexism, racism etc.

I just did. You didn't mention TOS one way or the other, and your post calls for suggestions. If you didn't want TOS options you should have said so.

You were right. It was a previous version of this question I wrote that mentioned my opinion on TOS. My bad!:brickwall:

Get back on topic please

Also, please try to avoid posting multiple times in a row if you can help it. You can always quote more than one poster in a single post if you wish :)
