Playmates Toys

Hi! Cool. Thank you for this Information. I will keep an eye on Amazon. But, I also think and hope, that actionfiguren24.de might get a bunch of the new figures. Yet, I'm not sure.

Thank you, MrPicard. :)

You're welcome, Admiral. ;)

You could also write an e-mail to Elbenwald and/or EMP and ask them if they're gonna have those figures in stock at any point. (On rare occasions they do get some of the new official merch.) But all in all Amazon Marketplace is still the best bet because so many sellers put up their stuff there.

Well, those are also good advices, because I frequently check out these shops for new Trek stuff. My favorite item is the TNG Picard Uniform Sweater.
Thanks, again. :)

Yeah I have that sweater, too. It's very comfy! I'm just not sure if they're really into the whole action figure thing, they seem to mostly focus on clothing and mugs and posters. But, who knows. I'm sure the Playmates figures will surface here somewhere at some point. I'm still on the fence about getting that new JLP figure (I'm extremely picky, I only buy figures that really look like Jean-Luc) but it IS on my "check out further" list, so I have an interest in this as well.

I wonder if the new Playmates action figures will include or exclude the Kelvin characters.

I would expect that they would but the line would have to last long enough considering all the Kelvin characters (except for someone like Nero, Krall or Marcus) are just variants of the Original crew. So I would think they’d be made in the same way as say, Kirk in the space suit from ”The Tholian Web” or Evil Spock from “Mirror, Mirror”, etc…

it would be “Kirk from Star Trek Beyond” and he’d be wearing that field jacket.

Yeah, right. It is veeeryyy comfy, I also love the FC Version of it. :)
We will see, but I so want the TNG and TWOK figures, it has that retro vibe to it, they are packaged in the 90s Design and there are no arguments against buying them.

Yeah I have the FC version as well... what can I say... I blame Jean-Luc?

And yeah the retro vibe is definitely something I appreciate about these new figures as well. I have a LOT of the original Playmates Jean-Luc Picard figures, some of them are among my absolute favorite figures of all times. I just need to see a few more pics of that Jean-Luc figure, I'm not THAT impressed by it so far - however, I also have to say that there are MUCH worse JLP figures out there, so... I'll probably end up getting it, heh.

Blaming Jean-Luc, haha. I'm still waiting for a DS9/GEN/VOY version of that sweater. :wah::hugegrin:

That is cool. I wish I would have collected more of the 90s waves of figures. I only had two Datas, one in TNG season 7 uniform and one in the DS9 uniform. But as a child I unpacked them and they disappeared over the years. I also wish, I would have collected the Generations figures with the uniform not used in the finished film.
What I had as a child was the Enterprise-E toy from First Contact. It looked so different from the actual starship, because they did not have the final designs. :rommie:
I still own that Playmates Borg head, which you can open and you have the setting and some figures from the Borg two-parter Descent. :borg::hugegrin:
Art Asylum did some very awesome TNG figures, including great Picard versions.
And yeah, I'm also so getting these new figures from Playmates. I found Picard very good looking in these first pictures, tbh. :)

Yeah when in doubt, I blame Jean-Luc - it works!

I always unpack my JLP figures... sacrilege, I know - I have a lot of them that didn't came wrapped in their original packaging anyway because they were gifts from friends. (Somehow I'm a JLP action figure magnet, they always end up with me eventually... I don't mind. Haha.) I know the ones you mention, I love the Generations one with the unused uniform, it looks great on action figure Jean-Luc, I wish we had seen it on movie Jean-Luc. And yup I have the Art Asylum ones as well. My favorite JLP figure is a massive Insurrection dress uniform figure whose body looks like as if he lives at the gym. I don't know what they were thinking making him look like some kind of Terminator but eh whatever, I'm here for it. And his face looks quite nice and realistic, so there's that, too.

Yeah I probably shouldn't be too insistent on the realism of the new Playmates figures. They're not meant to be 100% realistic, I do have to keep that in mind. I'm just an annoying nitpicker sometimes, haha. I'm trying to cut the figure some slack, believe me. ;)

Hehe, so you have an army of JLs on your bookshelves. :) Very cool.
Yes, these GEN uniforms looked quite nice, but on the other hand I do like the TNG crew wearing the DS9/VOY ones. And I also like mixing them with the TNGs.

I think, I remember these big figures they did in the early 90s with all these clothes. They looked funny, though. But JL used to be some kind of assimilating Terminator for... six days? :borg:;)

You have to post that pic of the customized JLP, then.

Yeah I kinda do have a small JLP army. (The Insurrection figure I mentioned is in the back. Like I said, it's massive.)

And I agree, the figures with the clothes are most interesting and fascinating. I wish they still made them. I know some fans disliked them and thought of them as "Barbies" but eh I never did. I appreciate fashion.

I do think that new Playmates figure would fit in nicely. I'm not sure how tall it is but eh I'd find a place for it. I kinda find myself wishing they'll make more than one JLP figure tho... I mean the old Playmates figures came in all sorts of variations, too. I'd be here for a Locutus, Dixon Hill, Academy!Jean-Luc, Galen, etc etc... :D

What an impressive JL collection. Really awesome, Sir.
I also never thought of them as Barbie-like dolls, although Trek Barbies existed in the 90s.

The new figures coming this year have the same size like the waves from the 90s, so they will fit perfectly. I guess and hope, they will release ST:PIC versions, like Picard in his Admiral uniform or in his suits he is wearing through PIC season 1. I'm also hoping for other characters from PIC, like 7of9, the Rikers in a triple Nepenthe edition , Altan Inigo Soong, Soji or Dahj, Q, Guinan..., you name them.
I'm also hoping for some Voyager figures... good times to be a Trekkie... again. :)

Thank you! I'm glad to hear that the'll be the same size as the 90s ones! I was kinda worried about them being slightly smaller or something. Stuff like that annoys me. :shifty:

I'd go for a Playmates PIC figure of Jean-Luc in the dashing suit he wears for that interview. Or, even better, one of him in that space pirate outfit. HE LOOKS SO GOOD IN THAT. /not biased at all

You're welcome! :)

No, they already said, the new waves would match the ones from the 90s, minus the FC figures, which were slightly bigger as far as I remember. So they should be fine. :)

I really, really hope, these new figures will be successful, so we will get our favorite versions of our beloved characters.

Yeah the FC ones are slightly bigger. First JLP figure I ever bought was the (bigger) First Contact one. Fond memories... I kept sneaking around it for weeks, saying to myself "no, I'm NOT going to turn into a nerd" before I decided to think "yeah okay I AM a nerd, and JLP is worth it" and then I bought it, haha. It basically started my entire collection.

And I very much agree, I hope the figures will be successful, too. I have very little doubt that they will be just that tho, I bet there are a zillion pre-orders in the US alone already. And TNG figures are usually a safe bet when it comes to merchandise anyway, so... yeah. They picked the right crews and characters for the first batch. Pretty sure there will be more after that.

Fortunately, we live in times, where it is awesome to be a nerd. Hehe. But, funny fact with that one being your first JLP figure, talking the FC figures.

So, yeah. Fingers crossed. I already read from various Trek sites Fan comments that some are arguing why familiar figures again... yet, Playmates is playing it safe to see, where we are going with the new waves. I'm happy about their decisions including the announced retro packaging. :) So, i'm also cautiously optimistic that this will be the first of many waves.

It's just that I used to be the type who made fun of nerds in school. It was weird to be 20 and suddenly figure out that I'm a nerd myself

And I agree, they're simply playing it safe with this first batch of characters. You have to do it like this - start with the familiar characters that will make the most money and create the most demand and then you have the money to move on to other figures later. It doesn't make any sense the other way around. TOS and TNG are the biggest moneymakers still when it comes to Trek merchandise. (I know, I know, easy to say for me since my favorite is generally always included when there are new figures to be seen, I totally understand the frustration others have.)

Okay, I get it. I used to be a nerd since my very childhood, starting with Trek in first or second class. So, nothing has changed... but now I can afford whatever my Trekkie hearts wants to own. :D And I'm very happy that my wife is fine with that.

Right, especially TNG is the most popular still up to this day. So, if I Was Playmates, I would do it like they are producing them now.

And, I'm sure, we will get our favorite figure designs. I also hope, when it comes to some further ship models they will go the retro packaging way as well. Thinking of Voyager and Enterprises etc.
Playmates will make some good money, especially with fans like us.

This initial line is pretty much as safe as can be. They picked the most iconic characters and uniforms with the TWOK uniforms, Khan character, and TNG basic characters, plus the icon of the Enterprise and the phaser. It doesn't get more safe than that.

I just hope, it will be the first of many waves and that we will have a renaissance of good ol' Playmates times with some great character designs. They made the right decision to go retro packaging, because this is very popular right now. Marvel did it with the Spider-Man Animation series figures from the 90s, when they re-released them recently. It just looks great and catchy! :)
