Here’s a fun question…what does your dog do that makes them unique?

Maybe these are not unique among dogs in general, but they are at least unique among the very many dogs we've had through the years.

My Phenix, who passed away a couple of years ago, was unique in many ways.

She taught herself how to open our kitchen door to come and go as she pleased, which was usually to go and stay outside for as long as possible. No need to install a doggie door which would have been much too large anyway. I did need to install spring loading on the door because she was not concerned about shutting the door behind her. Phenix had a bit of a rebellious streak in her.

She also used to play in our yard with her boyfriend neighbor dog named Pi, which is not unusual. But we could only sneakily watch her play from the windows because if she knew we were watching, she would immediately bark at Pi and chase him away. Phenix had a bit of a jealous streak in her.

Hahaha that’s so cute that she was jealous!!! She was such a beauty and clearly pretty intelligent.

Thank you! She was a very special dog. My x-wife tells people about when I got her as a puppy. I had insisted on picking the "next" dog because I never got to pick one. Either it was my wife picking it, or a rescue that we could not turn our backs on. My wife told me to go look at this pup, but I said, "no you are trying to make me pick the dog you want", but she said that she was sure I would like it for my own reasons. I got there and trembled as I walked past Phenix's father, a pure Rotty tied to a tree with a massive chain that seemed about to break under the strain of him trying to eat me. Then I saw the pup and fell instantly in love with her. I was carrying her to the car before my wife could even talk to the breeder who had offered her up.

I think I've mentioned it before, but when we first got Gracie she used to try to catch things that we threw to her with her front feet. My mom actually had to tech her how to catch with her mouth. This and the terrifying way she understands English are a big part of why I like to joke that she's either a shapeshifter or a person cursed into a dog.
I had kind of an interesting dog related moment during my bike ride today. I was taking my usual break at a park, and I swore I kept hearing what sounded like a dog, or coyote, on a hill behind me whining, but there was no one with a dog back there. I went and looked a little bit, and couldn't find anything, but I didn't go real far, because I didn't want to leave my stuff unattended. There was a couple of ladies with dogs in front of me, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't one of their dogs, because as they moved around me, the sound kept coming from the same place. Even if it was an echo, I would think it still would have moved as they moved.

It was probably a coyote. They hide well.

    Yeah, probably.
So how many different nicknames do you guys have for your dogs? Gracie and Tucker each have about 4 or 5, some nicer than others depending on how badly they're behaving.
