Ever since they introduced a non-binary character as well as a trans one, to go with the already existing gay couple and black woman captain, the episode ratings have gotten unrealistically low.

And I feel Disney are cowards and will never risk an LGBTQ lead for one of their Star Wars shows, but if they do it will be an interesting experiment.

True, the ratings for this season ARE very low, but I am kind of enjoying this season the least of them all as well, so I am not that shocked.

I avoided looking up anything about the character, other than that she was co-created by Bendis, so I feel I was able to watch with little bias.

I liked it quite a bit. As a few posters have noted, something about the town seems very fake. High school kids debating nature vs nurture in a big building labeled Medical on an army base? Yeah, nothing weird here.

The lead is engaging, the car lot dude is scary, and Dee seems like seriously traumatized, but the various friends... meh. We'll see. I did like Annabelle saying "of course I believe you." Good best friend. ::patpat::

My guess is that this "town" is a big experiment and/or prison for aliens and that they are on the world as Superman & Lois, but it's been hidden from them.

My hubby thinks Dee is Thanagarian, but those wings looked metal and coming out of his body. Perhaps he was experimented on?

i had the same thought. The largest thing I can think of that goes against this theory is her Superman site being very popular (and there being other popular ones all over the world like in Brazil). I don’t know how to square this unless there’s a part of the military who drives traffic to her website but also maintains a fake internet.

also, I guess it’s possible, but no one would be able to travel out of the town.

Also, if Superman is real, I don’t think he would be a major comic book title.

Fortunately I have both. Now if only Flash, Stargirl and Peacemaker would co-operate...

I can answer that if they go the same direction the comics did.

the Marvel characters in Marvel comics have comics made about their adventures. So did Spidey in Into the Spiderverse, the X-Men in Logan and I believe the Justice League during the JLI days.

Shmi conceived a child through masturbation, and her grand children often tried to bang each other.

In an 80s comic, they explained that the Marvel Bullpen rang up Avengers Mansion, and Edwin Jarvis gave "Marvel" a run down on what had been happening that week.

In Fantastic Four 250, back in 1980-something Franklin Richards called the webslinger "Spidey-Man" where-upon Pete facepalms and laments that he ever let the Electric Company use his likeness.

I think those are both possible.

What better way to hide that he's real?

It wasn't uncommon for real people to have comics based on fictionalized versions of themselves. Jerry Lewis and Bob Hope had long running comics from DC.

The comic was co-created by Brian Michael Bendis.

The show was co-created by Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship.

Bendis is credited as a producer, but I would be surprised if said credit is anything more than a courtesy extended because he co-created the concepts and characters upon which the show is based.

I know but I don’t think it would be as popular as it is in the real world if the character was real.

If Superman wants to sue anyone for appropriating his likeness, he has to sit in court and answer a few questions under oath like what is his real name, where does he live, and what bank account does he want any damages forwarded to.

Which is not a problem any more, since Bendis outed his secret identity.

Definitely a controversial choice, but it did yield this completely lovely moment:

On the other hand, I just learned the other that Cassandra Cain and Barbara Gordon are back to being Batgirl and Oracle respectively again, (and Steph as the other Batgirl) so: net positive!

Anyway. Just watched the show after finally getting through the backlog that was Supergirl's last season (I may have fast forwarded a few times) and so far so good.
I've elected not to research the source material so I don't go in with expectations, so not entirely sure what she show is trying to be just yet. Clearly something weird and possibly reality bending is going on. Though knowing it came from Bendis makes me inclined to think it's probably way darker in concept than the tone would suggest.

Leading theories in my brain so far are: -
    • It's Twilight Zone's 'It's a Good Life', and Naomi is Bill Mummy, but she just doesn't realise it.
    • They're all in The Matrix, or some kind of artificial reality construct, be it tech based, a shared psychic projection.
    • Some weird prison camp for aliens and/or meta-humans.
    • Multiverse shenannigans.
    • Naomi is in a coma, and this is the Wizard of Oz.

I don't think she was shot again, She just decided to be Oracle.
