Spoilers Book of Boba Fett [Spoiler Discussion]

This was a good start. I was surprised we got so many in depth flashbacks to what happened to him after Return of the Jedi, I expected to just get a couple quick bits of exposition and that would be it.
It was cool getting to see a bit more of Jabba's palace and more of Mos Espa.
The four-armed desert monster was cool, definitely agree that it had a bit of a Harryhausen vibe.
I wonder how big of a role Jennifer Beals is going to play, the scene with her from the trailer wasn't in this episode, so I'm assuming she must show up somewhere later.
The set up for the modern story was pretty good, definitely looking forward to seeing where all of that goes.

Thanks for this thread. I had totally forgotten about this series releasing today until I saw it.

Solid first episode. Morrison is in good shape, but he has a bigger frame than the guy who originally wore the suit. I guess if you want an in-universe explanation for the change you could say that he puffed up after the sarlacc experience. Fett also seems to be way nicer than the way he was portrayed in the OT or even The Mandalorian. I'm sure it's because they are trying to make him more sympathetic for a younger audience, but I hope they don't do go too far with it. EG:

I would have been fine with a quick flashback to his escape from the sarlacc and losing his armor. But it seems the show is going to be set up like the Mandolorian where we get flashbacks along with present day.

Some random observations after a second viewing: -
  • Noticed that Boba still has his Wookiee scalp trophy, and his utility belt when in the Sarlacc, but by the time he's clawed his way they're both gone (didn't spot the cape though.)
  • The jetpack seems to have been fully repaired and given a new paintjob using a fusion of both previous versions; the dark blue elements from the RotJ version, and the more muted green from the tESB version over that parts that were yellow/orange and white.
  • The tribute of credits from the Aqualish and Garsa Fwip were both in New Republic coins. Finally it seems; Republic credits WILL do fine . . .
  • That astromech drummer had a symbol on it's head. That is all.
  • Some weird things I noticed going on with the three Twi'leks is the ear horns. Fwip either didn't have ear cones, or was really squishing them down under her headdress, the female server had them in the usual place, while the male server (who shouldn't have any) appears to have a small pair, but higher than they usually are. I guess the male servers' could just be part of his headset, and it's a cultural thing where having them displayed (even faux horns) is a sign of servitude, or a weird caste system thing, but that might be a stretch give what we saw of the Syndullas.
  • The symbol the swoop gang were spraying on the homestead looks familiar. I think it's a character from one of the non-aurebesh alphabets they used for TPM and/or AotC.

So much to love in 1st chapter…..for me, seeing the band still gigging was the best.
And they were playing kind of a mellow version of "Mad About Me" (I was today years old when I found out that this song had an actual title other than "Cantina Theme")!!

Nothing like a little jizz music to get you in the mood...

I've seen it mentioned that maybe it's supposed to be a trans character, even a statement against Carano and such. I don't know enough about the whole Twi'lek lore to have even personally noticed.

I doubt that's the case.
The ear-cone thing has always been a little weird since it seems to stem from certain sources (mostly late 90's comics IIRC) misinterpreting what was seemingly just supposed to be a part of Oola's headgear (indeed from some concept art it looks like it was originally part of a kind of slave harness) as anatomy and it just kinda stuck. Maybe this is them now backing away from it slightly since having to realise those things as makeup appliances are a bit of a hassle.

I think if they're going to have a trans character, they'll actually have a trans character and not queerbait with some random make-up design choices on some minor characters.
I found the Sarlaac scene pretty disappointing and over way too quickly.
I thought it lasted exactly as long as it needed too. He's in a suit of neigh invulnerable armor and is armed to the teeth with burny, pointy, slashy, AND explodey things. Getting out would not and should not be conceptually difficult, just physically taxing.

When I saw and heard the guitar I knew Robert Rodriguez had to be the director of the episode.

My biggest takeaway from this episode is how much 10-year-old me would've loved this. Not that I didn't like it but man I would've been over the moon over this as a kid. The monster evoked a definite Harryhausen vibe to me, Ymir (EDIT:Kraken?) in particular.

Though as an older adult I can certainly relate to inconsistently needing a bacta tank. I can shovel the driveway and then hurt my back taking off my shoes.

Even though you could see it coming I loved the way the tribe leader giving him a beer, er water, at the end was done. It said everything without a word.

I never noticed it too badly in The Mandalorian but a few of the scenes looked a bit setbound which I'm assuming is a side effect from using The Volume.

Though I think Morrison's girth fits this current characterization they're going for with Fett I couldn't help but think of that as well.
This sums my thoughts up. I really enjoyed the character development. So many have expressed concerns about Boba being a shallow character. This gives him body and character.

Yes, Temura is a little thicker than Jeremy’s portrayal. And yes, he looks pudgy in the new uniform, but so what?? This was a great study in character.

damn if I don’t wish I could have a bacta bath right now…

If Boba had died on Tatooine it would have made a great contrast. Born on an ocean word, died on a desert world.
