I think Xander should have won, he did play a really strong game and i thought did he great with the jury, but Erika’s game was good as well and I’m happy she won. First Canadian winner ever too!!!! What really bugs me is that someone actually gave Deshawn a vote
Did they say when it would be on? I'm surprised there were enough countries willing to let this happen. I don't think even the Canadian version has done anything since the pandemic, since there are interprovincial restrictions as to who can cross borders for which reasons, and there's a lot of hostility between Alberta and BC if one province's license plates are found in the the other. I'd have preferred Xander to win, but it does seem that the jury didn't like what he had to say. And his strategy in the final choice was not smart. I wish Evvie had made it farther. Okay, I am confused. I know how it was possible for Kel to compete, as I think he had dual citizenship or somesuch. But does Erika also have dual citizenship? Or have they actually opened the game to Canadians?
Yes. January 5th. Xander's entire game consisted of "I found an Immunity Idol" and "I humiliated an ally who was planning to betray and humiliate me".
Thanks. He had more than that to his game. He knew enough to make a convincing-looking fake idol and know when to play it, and he won his share of challenges. He was also able to figure out (or at least successfully gamble) on whether or not he should play his idol. It did take luck, but he pulled it off. Next time they invite people back, he may be one of them - get a few more years' life experience and then see what happens. I'm glad this particular jury didn't go on race over merit. DeShawn did not deserve to win.
His struggles during the Final Tribal Council demonstrated that his game wasn't as strong as he - or anyone watching at home - thought it was.
And yet he was among the final 3, not because anyone thought he was just coasting and would be easy to beat, but by his own actions (and admittedly some luck). He struggled with thinking fast enough and with expressing himself. There have been other finalists with that problem. Just because he didn't win doesn't mean he didn't deserve to be among the finalists.
Xander's decision not to vote out Ricard earlier was a great move for him, he was totally right he would have been targeted next, instead the crosshairs stayed on Ricard.
What exit interviews are you referring to? The little speech they give that you'd miss if you don't watch the credits, or something else? Remember that anyone who watches this on an online CBS service gets a ton more content that someone who's watching it on basic cable in Canada.
^ I'm referring to audio and written interviews that the voted-off contestants did with various media outlets/entities - such as Entertainment Weekly and former Survivor contestant Rob Cesternino - following the broadcast of the episode in which they were voted out. In said interviews, several of the players who ended up on the jury talked about how Xander was not in any way the strong player that viewers perceived him to be and how very few of the other contestants respected him or his gameplay.
Yep. Xander perceived himself to be this big power player (as did viewers at home), but he was actually the season's biggest goat in the eyes of the other players.
CBC (the Canadian news site I subscribe to) ran an interview with Erika. She said that one of the locations she'd use for Survivor, if the choice was up to her, was somewhere in the Yukon. That's the territory we have that's adjacent to Alaska. It's beautiful there (though not anywhere you'd want to wear a skimpy bathing suit even in summer - not because it's cold, but because of the mosquitoes).
I don’t think they’ve gone anywhere seriously dangerous since Africa season 3. Where there were literally dangerous predators separated from you by only a thorny wall. I’m all for more variety but don’t think they want any limb amputations.
The Yukon is not actually the most dangerous place in Canada. That would be Churchill, Manitoba, where everyone leaves their homes and vehicles unlocked so people can make a quick dash to safety if a polar bear comes along. And that climate is not conducive to any game show, let alone Survivor. Erika isn't wrong to say the Yukon is beautiful, though. It is - just not somewhere for inexperienced campers and climbers to venture if they go beyond the usual tourist places.
