THE ORVILLE Season Three...

Season 3 first look from TVLine

The bridge of The Orville features faces familiar and new, in TVLine’s exclusive first look at the Emmy-nominated sci-fi series’ third season, to stream on Hulu this spring.

Blasting off Thursday, March 10 (with weekly releases), The Orville: New Horizons‘ 10-episode season finds the crew of the titular exploratory vessel continuing their mission, as they navigate both the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships.

The first photo (shown in full below) has Capt. Ed Mercer (played by series creator Seth MacFarlane), Cmdr. Kelly Grayson (Adrianne Palicki) and Lt. Gordon Malloy (Scott Grimes) manning their usual posts, while Admiral Halsey (Victor Garber) observes. The three new faces include new series regular Anne Winters (13 Reasons Why, Tyrant) as Ensign Charly Burke, while Bruce Boxleitner (Babylon 5) and the late Lisa Banes (Royal Pains, Nashville) guest-star as President Alcuzan and Senator Balask.

The Orville: New Horizons‘ cast also includes Penny Johnson Jerald (as Dr. Claire Finn), Peter Macon (as Lt. Cmdr. Bortus), J. Lee (as Lt. Cmdr. John LaMarr), Mark Jackson (Isaac), Chad L. Coleman (Klyden) and Jessica Szohr (Lt. Talla Keyali). Additionally, the late Norm Macdonald will be heard again as the Gelatin lieutenant Yaphit, while Eliza Taylor (The 100) will guest-star as a character TBA.

Although The Orville‘s first two seasons aired on Fox, it was announced in July 2019 that thee sci-fi adventure series would move to Hulu for Season 3. (“As the show has evolved and become more ambitious production-wise, I determined that I would not be able to deliver episodes until 2020, which would be challenging for [Fox],” MacFarlane explained at the time.) Nine months later, the coronavirus pandemic hit, further delaying The Orville‘s next mission.

I wonder if the bridge difference will be explained as being a result of the time travel stuff. This new Charlie character might also be someone that will have been with the ship this entire time in this new timeline and thus from her perspective isn't new to the ship.

March seems such a long time away, and that’s not even confirming the international release.

With The Orville now being on a new channel, it’s possible there could be additional seasons in the future, right?

Well, sure, anything is "possible."

It just depends on how much the show is watched and how much revenue it generates on the streaming service from subscribers. I've no idea how that entirely works with streaming services (especially ones where ads aren't played or people will have paid more to be free of ads) and they don't report their viewership numbers beyond "we are pleased" or "we are disappointed."

There's also the notion that the show has been in hiatus for such a long time because of the pandemic, so how many people even really care about the show anymore? Heck, I'm not sure how much *I* care and I really liked the show.

So. we'll see what happens.

The metrics being used to measure how well it's doing is probably a lot less demanding on streaming than on network TV.

"Netflix reaches one-third of people aged over four in the UK each week, BARB's viewing data has revealed as the TV measurement company reports video-on-demand (VOD) audience data for the first time.

This is one of the first insights from BARB's new measurement capabilities outlined in a white paper it is publishing for its members today: A Defining Moment: Understanding SVOD and video-sharing audiences.

BARB can now examine viewing habits across broadcast, broadcast video-on-demand (BVOD), subscription-on-demand (SVOD), advertising-based video-on-demand (AVOD) and video-sharing platform."

"Using the new data that is now available, Barb has reported the most-watched programmes across all broadcast channels and streaming services in October 2021. BBC 1's Strictly Come Dancing reached 10.4 million viewers, followed by Channel 4's The Great British Bake Off (8.9 million) and ITV's The Larkins (6.6 million).

Netflix's Squid Game ranked in 10th place with 5.8 million viewers, with a further three Netflix shows and one Disney+ title, Black Widow, placed in the top 100 most-watched programmes in October."

I haven't heard of where it will be shown in Canada. Possibly CityTV?
Kind of doubt it. It was airing on CityTV before.
I have my doubts. CityTV is no longer allowed to air new episodes of The Simpsons or Family Guy, Canadians now have to turn to Disney+ for those. With seasons 1 and 2 of The Orville already on Canadian Disney+ I wouldn't be surprised if the third season is only available on Disney+ in Canada.

Since when?

I don't have Disney+ and have been watching the Simpsons current season. It's a simsub from the U.S but still available here.

I really like(d) the show, but at this point I don't remember many characters names or plot lines without a rewatch or reading up.

Season 3 (March 2022) will launch almost 3 years after the finale of Season 2 (April 2019)

I've never re-watched S2, hell, don't even own the DVD like I do with S1. I remember really liking S2, though.

Since at least this past fall. My uncle wanted to know why CityTV was no longer airing Simpsons and Family Guy, and after a Google search the explanation turned out to be because they were moved to Disney+ in Canada.

Me neither, but I'd assume there and/or Space.

Yeah, I'd originally said CItyTV because that's where it already aired, but I could see Space being a good home for it.

As for Disney+, well, I don't have it, and I think making it the only way to watch it is a mistake. It should be only be made an option.

I agree, but I do have it so I'm good either way.

In Canada, cable is 90cad a month (over a thousand dollars a year). Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney, and Crave together are about 600 dollars a year. I also do Sportsnet and DAZN for a few months at a time. So for less than cable, I get pretty much everything my family needs through streaming for less than a "reasonably priced" cable package.
