Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy General Discussion Thread

They probably, foolishly, thought they could hunt this vine creature in some sort of hunting camp, and it drove them off the planet and eventually ate everything.

"Probably" is an overstatement. There are many possibilities, and there's no way to assess the likelihood of that one relative to all the others. As I said, it could just as easily have arrived after they already abandoned the planet for other reasons.

Or maybe the Hirogen weren't even native to this system, but took its name or became associated with it for some reason. Maybe it's like the historical use of "Gypsy" as a slur for the Roma people, based on the mistaken belief that they originated in Egypt. Maybe some other species called them Hirogen because they erroneously thought they were from this star system, and the name just stuck. Or maybe it's like how, in my novel Ex Machina, I explained that the Betelgeusians weren't actually from Betelgeuse (a supergiant star way too young to have inhabited planets), but, like Ford Prefect, came from a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse. In my conception, they'd long since abandoned their homeworld and become nomadic spacefarers because they knew their home would be destroyed when Betelgeuse inevitably goes supernova. So they were named that because their "home" was the sector of space around Betelgeuse. Maybe the area around the Hirogen system is called the Hirogen sector, and the species we call the Hirogen were from some other, less notable star system in that sector.

Or maybe... use your imagination. The first idea you get should be the starting point, not the stopping point.

Gotta be a wormhole or spatial anomaly, then. No way they dispatched a sleeper ship for a trip that would take centuries or even longer. One of those convenient anomalies that sweeps a primitive space vessel to a location far more distant than its crude engines could ever achieve on their own.

Or the ship was abducted for the free labor on board.

Or they watched the Lost In Space historical documents and thought that was the plan.

So where are the rest of the Tellarites? When will we see the sleeper ship (inevitable)? Pretty clear we are going to get a few back stories next.

I had to see Janeway-Squidward, so now everyone has to see Janeway-Squidward.

I've been preoccupied moving from Germany to Japan for a few weeks...........how long is the break in episodes?

Seven weeks between episode 5 and episode 6, so six weeks without Prodigy, one week down as of yesterday, with the hiatus continuing through this December’s five Thursdays.

It’ll return on Thursday, January 06th, and run for five more weeks through February 03rd, which will be the mid season break, with the final ten episodes of the season airing sometime later in 2022.

At this time, according to Google, the next new episode of Prodigy, premiering on January 6th, will be called Kobayashi.

Because Discovery’s season opener is called Kobayashi Maru, and many of the announcements about Prodigy’s hiatus and return date were made alongside the first details about season 4’s episode titles and descriptions, it feels like it’s most likely confusion on the part of Google’s information aggregating algorithm

But, as unlikely as it is, ‪‪I figured I’d share it here, just in case it’s the real episode title after all.

Way to throw the kiddies into the deep end of the pool. :shifty:

I see Dal (the schemer) trying Ye Olde Kirk Solution:

Dal: "Since I'm not getting anywhere with this, I'll try changing some of the variables."

Computer: ***spits out error code*** "Nice try, Dal."

So a Disco mid-season s3 two-parter title was “Terra Firma” and Prodigy’s last episode was “Terror Firma”.

Now we have the Disco s4 premiere episode named “Kobayashi Maru”, and an upcoming Prod episode entitled “Kobayashi”.

Running out of original title ideas, are they?
