Still not sure about Saru in red, but glad he's back onboard.

Is anyone else starting to think when they look at the waistline of these uniform shirts, where one side is longer than the other that they were inspired by someone who had one side of their shirt tucked in and the other not?

Is that rocks I see on the floor. 1000 years into the future and Starfleet are still building ships out of rocks

All sorts of controls there: it seems our sidekicks operate theirs like a theremin in the stills, but there are button-pushes in the clip, and of course plenty of buttons still around on Owo's console this season. How many different interfaces can we spot?

Some traditions are too dear to lose! Also, Starfleet still hasn't re-discovered circuit-breaker technology.

Not as much as the INS/NEM/DS9 S7 dress uniforms though. Picard and Bashir kept looking like they were waiting for their tips. ;)

Or UPS (UnInterruptible Power Supplies) and Isolated Power Systems.

The Bridge isn't running ultra high powered systems, they should be able to operate the vessel while running on local Fusion Generator power.

They should turn off any connections to the local EPS Taps.

Ergo, avoiding any Plasma Build up behind the console.

If anything, "The Expanse" shows you how to build a isolated Bridge that is secured from everything and not constantly shaking by having internal dampeners on the Bridge.

    Star Trek isn't the Expanse.

Except where the Protomolecule is concerned, the Expanse has tried to deal with real physics. Star Trek is more sci-fantasy. But in regards to the bridge, the Roci's layout seems very logical, as did the Weeping Sonambulist and the Arboghast. The big capital ships like the Agatha King and the Nauvoo made less sense to me because of that big central c&c area where there was no way for anyone to get buckled in for safety in a hurry if they had to do a quick burn.

The comparison to Star Trek I guess is that the ST ships are moving and manouvering at velocities that would turn the crew to goo at natural g-loading. I just take it that that dampeners and artificial grav systems are doing as best as they can under those extreme situations. Still, seems like they hit a technological peak, the way bicycles haven't really changed all that much in the last 100 years, just minimal improvements.

they're both sci fi shows airing at the dame time, dealing with non-dissimilar subject matter and it seems reasonable to compare them. Anymore defensive and the Steelers will need you as a linebacker.

Agree to disagree. I don't see it as reasonable at all.

I felt like Discovery could have taken a lot of lessons from The Expanse in Season 1, but it's grown to be a very different show over time.

I still wish they'd take a lesson in casting though. Star Trek always felt kinda like Space America, and Discovery arguably leaned into this harder than some earlier incarnations. It's "diverse" in terms of race, gender, and sexuality, but nearly everyone has bland North American accents. In contrast, The Expanse makes a serious effort to have casting which shows a genuinely global future, with lots of accents other than bland North American ones and a conscious casting of lots of multiracial individuals.

This is why I feel the comparison is a mute point. Discovery went an entirely different direction (multiple times, sadly) than the Expanse. The Expanse also has a ton more freedom to play around with ideas that Discovery ever will.
This I agree on. One of the things I have come to value with streaming shows is that my family and I get to watch shows from around the world. My children have come to appreciate different cultures because of it, and have taken time to make friends in other countries via internet connections. Discovery would do well to diversify further.

Sorry now but the TV show based on a book series with a pretty dedicated fanbase no way has more room to play with that's absolute nonsense.
DIS deviates way more from source than the Expanse.
And President Dukat above is right about the fact that DIS is very North American even by Trek standards. To add to that it is very middle class American for the most part (post season 1 which had Issac and Clem Fandango at least)

    I disagree, strongly.
    Which I would expect.
And I agreed with them in my post. So, not sure where there is an issue on this part.
