    Everything plotwise was as arbitrary and nonsensical as it's been all season, but I have to say, the conclusion of Kara's arc somehow still felt honest and emotional and true to the character. Benoist is radiant in that final shot, and I'm left feeling happy for a character I'd grown to love.

    Time Travel doesn't work like that here.

    If you change time, physical stuff changes almost immediately, and then eventually your memories are rewritten.

    Nura Nal isn't born any more, or if she's born, she is a lighter shade of lime.

    Which rewrites the romance between Brainy and Nia, as he is no longer trying to bang his friend's great grandmother, he's trying to bang his great grand daughter's great grand mother.

    The uncertainty of trying to land a historical hotty, becomes a predestination lock, and worriedness that Brainiac 6 needs to be conceived at a specific moment in future history to keep the time line on track.

    I agree that she really embodied a wonderful version of the character--she owned it and sold it well despite the crappy writing and poor stories the past couple of years. The final episode also made me feel nostalgic for the original team of Winn, James, Kara, and Alex who really were the heart of the show during the first two seasons.

    For those who don't know, the CW pulled a Superman & Lois with its US airing of the series finale, "Kara," showing an edited version of the episode with an "extended cut" (i.e., the real cut) available exclusively on its site and app. :mad:

    To the best of my recollection, additional and extended scenes include the following:
    • A dialogue exchange where Mitch joins the side of the good guys;
    • Additional lines from Cat in her first scene;
    • An extended version of the pre-wedding scene between Jimmy and Kelly;
    • Alex and Kelly asking Lena to be Esme's godmother;
    • Jimmy and Esme exchanging gifts;
    • Nia catching the bouquet (using her powers to cheat), and Brainy predicting a 100 percent certainty that they will wed; and
    • Additional dialogue in the scene between Kara, Jimmy, and Winn (I think -- Winn has a line about the multiverse I don't remember from the aired version).
    So that's a lot US viewers got cheated out of after their six-year viewing investment for the sake of more commercials.

    Also, I ran across this on YouTube:

    I'm hesitant to mention this, but I feel like people need to be aware of it.

    There's currently a hoax campaign being spread by supporters of the non-Canon Lena Luthor/Kara Danvers 'ship (involving a doctored screenshot from the finale and a fabricated script page) intended to stoke false anger towards the producers of Supergirl simply because they can't accept the fact that the series didn't - and was never going to - give their 'ship validation.

    Lena should have banged Jimmy. No happily ever after, just two exes hooking up at a wedding because its fun and safe.

    Lena should have hooked up with J'onn at the wedding, because that would have screwed up Winn's prophecy about J'Onn's kids with M'gann.

    Lena should have hooked up with Winn at the wedding, and then we see some Forrest Gump footage, where they have been at it like rabbits all the time, even when she was with Jimmy. Yes he's married, but his wife is not born yet.

    Lena should have been Pregnant with William's baby because, what was the fu*king point of William if he wasn't going to be someone's boyfriend?

    When J'onn says "If any one knows reason why these two women should not lawfully be wed" Lena stands up and says that she is in love with Kelly, and that Kelly is in Love with her, and they both runaway with Esme.

    Otis? Unattached male? Thick as a bag of bricks, but what a body. A very long time ago he was Hercules on something cancelled quickly by the CW.

    Vril Dox or the original Brainiac? I believe both are still considered ancestors, not Querl's father.

    Yes, I was left with a warm, fuzzy feeling, and I was glad of that. The ending of anything tends to color one's view of the whole thing.

    Nyxy mentioned not hurting innocent kids at least once. Also, given her talk with Esme where she talked about her own horrible childhood, I think Nyxy saw the innocent child she'd once been herself. Also, Esme is the cutest child EVAR.

    Yes. As stupid as the writing has often been, there were moments that (IMO) rang true for the characters:
    • Kara's greatest flaw has always been the "I can fix this" (said many times!) attitude. It's led her to many bad decisions. After 6 years, finally realizing, by *listening* to people, that she has to inspire and empower, instead of save and fix, felt like good growth to go out on.
    • Lena's scene with Andrea was lovely. Maybe it just hit a little close to home for me. :hugegrin:
    • I dunno about the deathbed confession, but Brenda Strong's Lillian is always a joy to watch. She may have been manipulating Nyxy, but everything she said about Lex was true.
    • Lex's turnaround on Nyxy was pitch perfect. I hope he escapes to annoy Clark somewhere down the road too.
    • Brainy giving in to his heart was (IMO) an appropriate ending to his character development.
    I loved seeing that original trio together again! Reminiscing about their early days was *chef's kiss*. Plus, nice arrangement on a great Pat Benetar song.

    I am SO happy they got Calista! I hadn't realized how much I've missed Cat and her snark. :biggrin:

    Nice they mentioned M'Gann. I'm guessing she wasn't available.

    They had to use "Landslide". Way to make me cry.

    All in all, I'm happy with the ending. A good sendoff.

    First time I've been glad we can't see CW shows when they air!

    Thanks for the video! I love Jesse. :luvlove:

    Valentine! Thank you! I've been trying to remember for ages. (Yes, I watched it. I have a crush on Jaime Murray. Plus, I'm a Greek mythology geek.)

    I saw that on Twitter. Anyone with a basic knowledge of film and television production should know that is all fake.

    There was also separate conspiracy theory that the episode was re filmed due to negative fan reactions to the “original ending” of Kara going to the future to live with the Legion. I know that was a popular speculative ending but they have been hinting Kara would reveal her identity for many episodes before this. Also they went to a lot of trouble to include Calista Flockhart. Notice her and Melissa are never in the same shot together. There is a brief image of Cat and Kara facing each during the interview. But you do not see Cat’s face. Probably a body double. Calista likely shot all her scenes in LA.

    That was the perfect ending to me. Cat was a huge part of this show in the beginning. I was hoping she would be involved somehow. This was better than I expected. Not just one scene but three. A slow build to her revealing Kara to the world at the end.

    This show was always been hit and miss. One of the problems was Kara Danvers was never really a separate identity from Supergirl. Unlike Clark Kent and Superman which are. She came here with full memories of her life on Krypton. Than the purpose and pretense of Kara Danvers became more contrived as more regular characters knew her secret. Any storylines of her as a reporter felt like unnecessary baggage left over from an earlier version of the show the writers never abandoned. Also most of the Catco characters who were not part of her superhero life were superfluous.

    So the ending fixed the problem the character and writers struggled with whole series.

    Finally saw this. My internet's been out since last Tuesday, and I'm catching up now that it's fixed. (Apparently some wires got crossed at the switching station where my phone line ends up.)

    This has been a mediocre season, and the finale didn't do much better. There were some real howlers, like the idea of a satellite having the power to drain the Sun, not to mention "knock the Sun out of orbit," which implies the writers were unaware of the past 500 years of scientific progress (2500 if you count the Greeks) and assume the Sun orbits the Earth. The bit about Supergirl inspiring the people with a speech was a blatant copy of the first-season finale, and didn't work remotely as well, because the situation was just so cartoonish and silly. The whole totem business never made a lick of sense.

    Aside from the inanity of the plot, there were some worthwhile character beats. Bringing Lillian back and giving her closure with Lena was appreciated. I'm also grateful that they managed to bring back Cat for one final inspirational exchange with Kara, despite having to do it over the phone. And it was nice to reunite the OG Superfriends one last time and have them reminisce on how it started. Although it felt like too little, too late for them and Cat, since we've seen them so rarely.

    I feel sad that Nyxly ended up trapped back in the Phantom Zone. I think that's cruel and undeserved, since it was an injustice that she was imprisoned there in the first place. It would've been better if they'd found some more humane resolution for her, or even redeemed her. She had potential for redemption, particularly in her compassion for Esme, and it's a shame that potential was wasted.

    So "We Belong" is a Pat Benatar song? Okay. For me it was just one of the more agreeable of the oldies that played constantly on the PA at the university bookstore where I worked for about a year back in the '00s. I always rather liked the refrain, though I didn't know who the singer was. Benoist and Jordan sang it very well, though I missed the strong, heartbeat-ish percussion line that's part of what makes the refrain so striking.

    There was indeed a "Los Angeles Unit" credit in the end titles, but only a couple of people were credited as part of that unit, about what you'd expect for filming inserts of one actress on what was obviously a greenscreen stage.

    So there's a new Movie Supergirl?

    Is she a mental feeb, because she's going to cling to a secret identity?

    Yes, actress Sasha Calle is Supergirl in the DCEU's The Flash movie, with a far different look and personality than the Berlanti version.

    Lighten up. Mocking even a fictional character for mental difficulties is not good. Don't do it again.

    The show made a huge deal about how Kara was finally a well rounded, happier complete person after making the brave decision to ditch her secret identity.

    That means everyone, with a secret identity, but especially Batman, is a miserable coward.

    I was mocking the show runners for saying that everyone with a secret identity is deficient, as soon as they are finished with the character, and it's someone else's turn to pick up the batton and take a stab at the character who they have just underlined as emotionally broken.

    Not sure where the YouTuber got this, but here is the full version of Kara/Benoist and Winn/Jordan's beautiful rendition of "We Belong," certainly a highlight of the finale and indeed of the season:
