Is anyone collecting 3d chess set produced by eaglemoss? If yes would you recommend it?

It seems it's a subscription model similar to starships.

I must admit I'm tempted although the cost of entire set still makes it hard for me to justify it...

It doesn't have the figures (just an ordinary pieces) but you can buy a proper outright, unless it's the figures you're interested in. I have one and it's a smart piece of kit.

I think it's an odd choice to mix and match individual characters from all over Trek rather than just go with either one theme or recreate an actual 3D chess set from the shows. But, I must say, those small figurines look pretty cool in their own right. Wouldn't mind the Tasha and Data figures. Hope they'll be available individually in the shop at some point.

At the moment they announced 9 figures but they are aiming for 48 total.

So it's pretty similar to their usual figurine subscription deal, just with a chess board thrown in as a "gift" for display, and with chess piece icons on the figurine bases. To prevent possible confusion, I still prefer the traditional Staunton type chess pieces for actual gameplay.

I'm planning on getting it, for the TOS figures. The 3 factions are TOS, TNG, and "Aliens and Enemies". I have no idea if the pawns will be clones for each faction, but 16x3 IS 48, so they should all be unique. I will sell all the TNG pieces and the non-TOS aliens/enemies as they get delivered. I will fill the enemy gaps with dorky Doctor Who villains. They are the same scale.
