Should they kill a main character like Saru this year?

Killing Burnham would be equally insensitive. You know, come to think of it I can't remember ever seeing on this board someone posting that they would like a white female character to die. I legitimately can't. I've seen things like 'Janeway should have been sent to jail' but I've never seen people clamoring for her death, like a couple of people in this thread.

Just adds to my theory that some people are fine seeing a black woman do the sci-fi equivalent of answer the telephone but heaven help the black woman that is outspoken and tells a white man what to do.

TBF, white females have already died (Tasha Yar, and Jadzia Dax-even though it was a Trill).

And who of the Disco cast who would you kill off? Nilsson, who's actress already played a character that got killed off in Ariam? Detmer, who’s finally coming into her own and is having the development that the audience is looking for with the supporting cast? Tilly, who the showrunners probably want in command of the USS Enterprise AA, or whatever letter the Federation are at now in the 32nd century? Reno, who would probably take Stamets job of chief engineer if he ever left the show, a position that is usually dominated by men in the franchise? Adira, who is new and doesn’t identify as a she?

I have seen someone suggest that Tilly and Stamets were holding the show back and needed to go for the show to reach new heights (on reddit, iirc), but those characters can just be transferred to another ship. But its not just Burnham, although she gets the brunt of it.

It's would be preferable if either the ship gets destroyed and kills the entire crew. Or the entire crew gets blown out the shuttlebay while watching a movie because of Zora.

Yes.
Tilly, who the showrunners probably want in command of the USS Enterprise AA, or whatever letter the Federation are at now in the 32nd century?
Potentially. And hopefully the Enterprise never :censored:ing shows up in Discovery.

And who of the Disco cast who would you kill off?
None of them, at this point. Not the answer that some people want to hear, but that's my answer nonetheless.

The cast is the cast is the cast. If they kill off someone, it won't be a main character or a supporting main character, unless they're introduced in Season 4.

PS: If this were another Star Trek series, we wouldn't be having this discussion at all. It's basically, "I don't like this show, so what can they do to make it something I will like?" The answer's nothing.

Due to the actors wanting off the series. And the reasons they wanted off the show were being underwritten and being treated unfairly respectively. Which, you guessed it, ties back to studio politics and sexism in the '80s and '90s.

If circumstances were better behind-the-scenes, Denise Crosby and Terry Farrell wouldn't have wanted off their respective series and wouldn't have been killed off.

She doesn't have to die. She can transfer off. The main idea is to take the best aspects of the show and restructure it like Fear of the Walking Dead did when they replaced Madison with Morgan. Or Babylon 5 with Sheridan over Sinclair. I think the show has plenty of interesting characters but is held back do to Burnham being boring. But even if do keep her you can also still find other ways to restructure. Make her a drug addict or erase everyone's memories of her. Kill her but keep a Android version on the show. Stuff like that.

Burnham god basically (if she is an android who is the plot but only appears in beginning and end) probably how producers would play it if they killed off Burnham.

I agree that ravaging the main characters is a good way to break up the show and probably wouldn’t satisfy haters(though a whole show with different deaths of Michael Burnham and means of resurrection dosen’t sound that bad), but it would be interesting for Michael Burnham to have a Mugato moment similar to Mariners in Lower decks with Burnham’s ideas failing and One of the bridge characters being right and then taking up the center of attention for 2-3 episodes.

Just like O Brien Burnham must suffer!

(I love discovery season 2 and 3 were great)

And season 1 had it great moments would have been much better without the mutiny though, and less altered Klingons or at least an explanation why the Klingons were changed.

Well if we are talking this season I would kill everyone except Burnham,Tilly,Stamets, Adira and Owosekun. Gray isn't alive I don't think but I would write him out for the second half. With the goal of bringing him back next season. Next season would be the Q season. Doug Jones would play Q and with his power he would bring Gray back to life as more than a fantasy. Naturally we would have new characters introduced to replace everyone else who has died from Culber,Detmer,Airiam etc.

Some of who would return in the final season after the Q season and maybe in flashbacks. I think Burnham loosing her memories would be what I would go for in the Q season and basically Tilly becomes the captain but Burnham is of course still the lead but the idea is with all the stress and trauma removed she would become a very different person. Maybe someone who prefers to engineer stuff. Has a sense of humor. In my mind a female Tony Stark. The main goal of the final 2 seasons though like the Q one is to move beyond the, we need to save the galaxy, story yet again. I would think of it in terms of Year of Hell from Voyager this season, A Q season would be like Lower Decks done with real actors and the final season would be about Closure and coming Full Circle by going back to the past but not to stay in the past. Just a short term visit. Then when the season ends people can sort of assume the adventure continues. No doubt in Trek novels.

I just hope they step away from the death fake-outs. They have officially gone to that well too much. From start to finish all I could do was eye-roll at Owo's death fake-out from the finale.

I forgot about what they did with Picard when I suggested it. I agree that would be a bad idea, especially so soon.

And then Stamets can become the drug addict after losing Culber a second time, and this time being permanent. While Owo tries to fill the shoes of Detmer.

Stamets can fall in love with a new character. Perhaps the new pilot character. Different from Culber in that he is not sexy like Cruz. He is a little overweight and shy in the way Barclay was but they hit it off and fall in love. Owo could then be Tilly's first officer and you create a friendship between them.

Why stop at one?

Why not have a 32nd century Jem’Hadar ship come out of nowhere, ram Discovery, and kill off the entire crew? Like what was planned for the Ent-D before the DS9 showrunners switch to the Odyssey.
That was never planned for the Enterprise D. This is one of the dumbest rumors I've ever heard and I can't believe people are still spreading it.

That was a real rumor? Man that sounds way to fake to be bought. At least just say the Enterprise gets destroyed by one of their regular 24th century ships. People knew a TNG movie as coming so I could see them buying into the idea they would introduce a new type of a ship for the movies starting in Generations.

*checks the forum*

Huh...not the fan fiction forum. Weird.

I've read it several times over the years.
The writers said they made the Odyssey a Galaxy class ship to drove the point home how dangerous the Dominion is, it was supposed to show the audience that even the best type of ship could be taken out like it was nothing, they said if starfleet had sent the Enterprise the result would have been the same.
Somehow this hypothetical in universe scenario turned into "They planned to blow up the Enterprise and kill the entire main cast" in someone's head and others started believing it although it was very obviously not an idea anyone even considered for a second.
