What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

I liked the Mirror Universe detour. Discovery season one's weakness was the damp squib ending and over-the-top speech. Blowing up the Sarcophagus ship? Peak. Escaping the MU? Peak. Giving a planet killer bomb away and naming the new Klingon leader? Sounds better than it was.

I have yet to see many people if any who think Season 1 of DSC was the best of the three so far.
Hey. You saw my list. I ranked it 1, 3, 2. I don't qualify as "many" but I do qualify as "if any".

I'm not going to change my opinion just because "everyone else!" disagrees with me. Now, if I end up liking the fourth season (or any other future season) better than the first, then it'll be knocked off my Favorite Season of Disco spot. But until then, it's my favorite season of Disco.

Discovery season 1 started strong in my opinion. It never recovered from the overly long detour Into the Mirror Universe.

I would agree with that, but I did like the first MU episode. It was the rest of them (and everything after them) that was the major problem.

Also, while this killed DSC season 1 for me to a significant extant, it was still a better season than ENT season 1 or TNG season 1 and possibly VOY season 1 and maybe even DS9 season 1.

First seasons in Star Trek are painful.

TNG S1 is better than TOS S3.

Of course, with the original series the inverse of the standard formula is true. It started off with its best season and went down from there.

That's pretty controversial.

I'm going to be equally controversial and say TOS S3 > TNG S1. I think both stances are equally controversial.

There are TNG seasons I rank higher than TOS S3, but TNG S1 isn't one of them.

TNG S3 is, though. TNG S3 > TOS S3. That's probably less controversial.

TOS Season 1 is the best first season of any Trek series to date. LD would come second.
Yep.

TOS Season 3 has some great gems. Literally in terms of Gem in "The Empath."

TNG Season 1 has fewer rewatchable episodes.

I always enjoy watching Where No One Has Gone Before, 11001001, and The Arsenal of Freedom from TNG S1. Whereas, some season 3 episodes of the original series that some consider classics, such as The Enterprise Incident, leave me cold. I mean, the novels did an amazing job redeeming the character of the Romulan Commander, but she really is stupid in this episode.

"The Neutral Zone(TNG)" will never not be fun for me. I love that episode. The real heroes in the story are the unfrozen 20th century humans, and in particular Ralph Offenhouse who seems to have the Romulans figured out before Picard does.

Sounds like you're finding yourself a low-mileage pit woofie so you can build a memory.
I like Sonny Clemmonds. He realized before Offenhouse that there was a tense situation brewing, and tried to rein him in, instead of causing trouble. I like to think that he revitalized his career in a successful way. Just wait till he discovers synthehol.

And I don't know if Offenhouse realized that the Romulans didn't know who attacked the border outposts before Picard did, he just verbalized the thought whereas Picard kept the realization to himself.
