Spoilers Would the Borg assimilate cetaceans from Earth?

And if that's the case, what would such a Borg drone look like and being used for?
Considering that Borg cubes, in all what we've seen so far, are designed for humanoids, how would such a drone be able to navigate on such a vessel, work or be connected to an alcove?

I think they would get a pass because they could not operate outside of an aquatic environment. They breathe air, but need water for everything else. They would serve no purpose on a Borg vessel.

Borg only seem interested in technological civilizations. If they gave a pass to the Kazon because of their inadequate technology (which was all stolen from the Trabe and others anyway), they'd be unlikely to go after a species that didn't even have opposable thumbs or the ability to start a fire.

Maybe knowledge about navigational issues, thinking about that Starfleet keeps them around for this reason in a lot of ships and considers them useful.

I imagine the Borg would’ve figured out navigational issues since they’ve been around for thousands of years.

That's true, but if the cetaceans involvement in Starfleet started after the whale probe, maybe during the first decades of the 24th century, Starfleet also should have been experienced enough and have no need for having special installations for them on their ships.

If cetacean ops really has some advantages and isn't just there, because of dolphins, whales and other aquatics having a desire to join Starfleet.

The Borg adapt. They tried to assimilate 8472, a nonhumanoid species that similarly lives in fluid. They do not limit themselves to humanoid forms in search of perfection. The Borg would have no qualms about installing a million metric tonnes of liquid onto its ship. It would similarly have no qualms about cutting off half of a Cetacean, installing robot legs, and changing their biology so there is no need to live in liquid to regulate body temperature.

A Cetacean is about as useless as any other common drone. The only reason to assimilate them would be in a takeover of a starship or technologically advanced planet. The same reason they assimilate most people who might not contribute to their perfection, but you never know.

They are absolutely on the table.

The Borg assimilating a couple of cetacean crewmembers might explain why the Borg Queen was so horny in first contact, The Cetaceans randiness permeated the collective consciousness.

That's why i think it would have been great if one of the Lower Decks Belugas would have been called Gene :guffaw:

If they were smart they would go after the whales on Earth to hopefully give them some insights into possibly assimilating the species behind the whale probe.

But they might be completely oblivious to the probe and whatever species sent it, so who knows? I wonder if they've ever needed to assimilate any other types of animals.
