THE ORVILLE Season Three...

I wonder if they explain the new sets on the alternate timeline not being fully fixed. Maybe we will see other changes as well in terms of characters. Maybe Ed and Kelly are still married. The Kaylon design is a little different. The Mochlans have been kicked out of the Union because of their sexism.
They'll say it's a refit, but it'll be the kind of refit that totally changes alien makeup design too like TMP:p

IIRC, there was talk a while back of some changes to the uniforms too. Nothing too drastic, just something like modified shoulders or something.
It almost feels like a attempt to move away from the TNG feel to the TNG movies feel.
Heh, my first thought after seeing the new bridge was how much it reminded me of the Enterprise D's bridge in Generations.

You know, as someone without much good to say about The Orville, I did really like their sets, and how they resembled something you'd see in a 90s Trek show. That new bridge feels very souless compared to the original, the kind of bridge set you could see on any sci fi show (of similar budget) made today.

They've changed the colors, added some lights, streamlined the wall design, replaced the command chairs. A little sleeker and less 80s.

Though it doesn’t look like they changed much about the hallway behind it, as it still looks beige. So looks like it’s just the bridge getting a redesign so far.

I wonder why they made the change? My theory is partially to move away from some of the TNG feels but that was I think a successful part of the show. I wonder if he is going to go for something more complicated but still of that time like in Deep Space Nine. Maybe more war stories with the Kaylon.

Real world, the set probably was pretty beaten up after a couple of season of filming and needed a refurb, in-universe the Orville probably had a lot of repairs after the events of last season.

Is there any chance the sets had to be moved and or rebuilt because of the move to hulu?

There's a chance.

owever, all the changes we see to this set are superficial rather than structural - colors and lights and some new furniture. There has been a modest change to the way the framing of the back wall merges into the side walls, but that's it.

I think it is 100% based on having the chance and some money to redo the sets, and as mentioned upthread, the redesign choices are entirely meant to emulate the redesigns from the Trek series becoming movies.

I'm so-so on Orville as a series, but I did like the teaser. The voiceovers, music very much had a Trek feel. And I'm liking the new bridge. One of my quibbles with the original bridge was it looked unfinished, so the redesign feels more like I would expect to see on a 'real' starship. Now I wonder if the uniforms, shuttles (which also could stand to use it) will be redesigned as well.

Wow, I hadn't watched the show since it originally aired, so I didn't realize how much they added until the comparison. Definitely like the new one better, the first one was a little to simple.

From what I've seen on Instagram, the new uniforms have biker-style pants with padded knees, and the ...uhhh... shoulder bits? Word escaping me now... are flat.
