Sorry for the late reply - its been a little chaotic this past week or so. I saw the two additional auctions, but I decided against adding them due to the same sheets already being in the archive in higher quality. There has been some progress on the corridor set: Still trying to figure out the hand rail though
When you are looking at variations, are you making sure there aren't subtle things like notations that might be different between them? I have some handrail screencaps that I'll dig up showing their odd profile. Also, I recently acquired one of the sconces like those in Ten Forward. Since they are used in the corridor lounge area, which you were working on, would you like some dimensions to help recreate that set more completely?
After the unusual concept runabout, I felt it might be a good idea to have a folder on the archive for concept art. This folder will feature images of unrealised concepts or concepts with details that didn't make it to screen. Folder: http://archive.frogland.co.uk/#16322312060836 Additions: Defiant - An early idea was the the defiant would be a beefed up runabout. Scaled up, the cockpit became a full bridge. This is great, but the pages aren't loading for me. Anyone else having a problem with them? Also, will this include things like prop concepts? I've always thought there should be a comprehensive collection for that.
I think the archive concept art pages should work now - it seems the "hidden" flag got toggled somehow. Prop concept art is a good idea, so I've made a separate album for those: Folder: http://archive.frogland.co.uk/#16322444067940 So far it has: Archer's Toy spaceship - elevation drawing Ferengi gambling machines Garak's device from "The Die is Cast" Bajoran temple item and Klingon musical instrument NX torpedo Romulan disruptor (x2) Romulan Rifle 2009 reboot rifle (x2) TNG phaser akin to TOS style two part phaser (x3) TNG cobra phaser TNG cobra phaser without bend TNG "Riot Gun" TNG tricorders (x5) TNG wrist devices (x3) Eaves Phasers (x3) [for ENT?] Voyager Rifle DS9 away suit Exocomp Comm badge (circular with embossed delta symbol) Conspiracy Bloke (can't remember name)
OH if we are doing props, which YAY! let me see what I can find because I've been looking at a lot of those recently. There are a lot of blink and you miss props blueprints in these videos: These props appear throughout TNG and Voyager https://www.yourprops.com/Medical-I...Trek-The-Next-Generation-TV-1987-YP71225.html
Y'know, the longer I look at it, the more the beefed up Runabout cockpit seems like a direct inspiration for La Sirena's cockpit area... Also: that Gorn light cruiser is AWESOME! So much unique lines! Jim Martin's design work really is something else. Even though I like what Eaves has brought us, I keep repeating myself that I find his lines just a bit too much of more along the same design language, whatever the race or supposed time of construction. Can't say that with Martin...
Added another diagram of the Orbital office to the Starfleet folder. This one has annotations. http://archive.frogland.co.uk/#15415366461389/16324043996576 And now, some more concept art... Awesome! And I've never seen the ST5 shuttle design before. But that brings to mind a question I had recently, who is mostly responsible for the ST5 Galileo/Type-6 shuttle? I've seen what I think were ST5 plans that had side windows like the later Type-6 but aren't on the movie version. And those windows are reminiscent of the Type-7, which had already been designed....so was it Probert? I think Sternbach (though I could be completely wrong) was involved in conceptualizing the modifications to the Type-6. Or was it some other designer that was only working on the movie?
Probert didn't work on the ST:V film - he had left Trek after TNG series 1 I've gone through the IMDB credits for the film and the possibilities are Herman F. Zimmerman ... Production Design (as Herman Zimmerman) Anthony Brockliss ... assistant art director Antoinette J. Gordon ... set designer (as Antoinette Gordon) Richard McKenzie ... set designer (as Richard Frank McKenzie) Andrew Neskoromny ... set designer Rick Sternbach ... illustrator Sandy Veneziano ... assistant art director (as Sandy L. Veneziano) Ron Wilkinson ... set designer (as Ronald R. Wilkinson)
^Also Nilo Rodis-Jamero, who did double duty as art director and costume designer. As far as the page of mystery DS9 consoles drawn by Doug Drexler, I'm leaning toward the Defiant; the half-circle shape of that one console looks like it could be an early version of the Defiant's conn, and the other consoles have a feel to them that's more Defiant than runabout.
Eaves' first work in Trek was in V (uncredited, he was very young and technically just a helper to Greg Jein) and he did concept art for the shuttle, as well as the starfleet phaser and the closeup on the Klingon BoP disruptor (all stuff Jein Inc had to build for the movie). This is all on the Art of John Eaves book. It's unclear if he further elaborated from this early concept piece or if someone else did. EDIT: Okey, the book says that his version of the shuttle got scrapped in favor of a design by Nilo Rodis-Jamero, so I guess that answers that. Later for TNG, the shuttle got updated by Sternbach following the design he originally intended for the replacement of the Type-7 shuttle which he wanted to do for season 2 (but was rejected due to budget, hence we got the Type-15 pod). EDIT 2: Sorry, I forgot to add, regarding the Drexler DS9 console, I'm fairly certain it's concept for the added standing console the Runabout set had in season 5.
I feel like I've seen those concepts before in relation to the late-season standing console on the Runabout.
