That looks really good, KimMH I'm really surprised that there isn't more of a cosplay presence here on the board. I see all those wonderful costumes that people create in convention photo galleries and the like, and expect to see similar here, but I can't really find anything. Unless I'm just looking in the wrong places, of course (I just searched "cosplay", but other than this new thread, every other hit is just mention of the word). Anyway, I hope this thread is popular and that we get to see loads of costumes. I'll have to try and come up with something myself (the only time I've ever cosplayed before was at a carnival years and years ago when I painted myself with Trill spots).
I remember back when I joined there was a thread of one (maybe more) people posting their cosplay photos, but it did strike me that as they were incredibly good looking it might just have been a "Look how incredibly good looking I am !" thing. Or maybe it just looked that way due to minimal participation by others. It didn't last anyway. There's probably room for a thread or two if there's the interest.
I enjoy sewing so I would have enjoyed making myself cosplay outfits when I was much....much...younger. Now, I only sew for granddaughters. Fairy and mermaid stuff.
I think the vast majority of cosplay posts are from well known fans who are also people with an online presence. Most people here are just regular folks it would seem. That's probably why you don't see much of that here.
If I showed my stuff, there'd be mass civil disorder caused by a stampede towards the exits. srsly, I have never really had the desire to cosplay or dress up in any kind of costume. (Hell, I haven't even trick-or-treated since age nine.) That's just not how I roll. If others love it, hey, that's fine, you do you. But it's just not my thing.
As would the all-knowing, all-powerful entity, who, while not manifesting a physical presence, permeates the entire fabric of our existence, and watches over us all. By which, of course, I mean Google.
- I hope so too, because I've just set this/next month's art challenge over at the Fan Art forum with a cosplay theme - I'm sure Starfleet would accept fairy and mermaid officers - Ah, you may be right, but even if only a few people share their cosplay efforts it would be worth it

I just wish I would be invited to a fancy dress party so I can agonise over going as Velma Dinkley or Lloyd Christmas.
I got several galleries on my facebook profile. Been cosplaying for about 10 years now, Most of my costumes I have brought. Been a while since I wore one at a convention with covid and personal sacrifices that I've made (for saving something else). I'm also involved with Starfleet International - so costuming is part of my life.
The late 1990s during Dragon*Con, an Atlanta based multi genre event (sci-fi, fantasy, horror, comics, film & TV, gaming, etc.) held during the Labor Day weekend. I haven't costumed since 2002 and I haven't attended a con since 2006. Really, 90+ percent of what I desire from a convention I can readily find online such as panel discussions, galleries of costumes, fan art, fan films, collectibles and so on. But it was a fun decade and each tear I kept building upon this concept I mockingly called the Fur-minator. A college student tailored the furred sleeves and the grieves, but the vest was my getting crazy with a hot glue gun. The mask is a poured rubber casting I made from a mold I formed over a life cast of my face built up with oil based clay. I did not glue the mask like a prosthetic appliance. Instead it was held firm simply by a thick band of Lycra and hidden by a Tina Turner mane type wig. I broke down a second wig to glue lengths of fiber laced "cord" to the outer edges of the mask, hiding the thick edges and blending with the full wig. The sci-fi looking Kruger gloves were an item I found at Spencer's Gifts. The acrylic blades were illuminated by strobing LEDs (washed out by the daylight). the blades were originally far longer and blunted for safety, but i trimmed them to look more imposing. I also festooned my ensemble with greeblied boxes rigged with self contained blinking LEDs in red and green. They flashed randomly out of sync with one another, giving the suggestion of operational status. At a later D*C, I added "power bands with buttons and LEDs, geometrically cut foam to the plastic shin guards and a tawny colored furred tail I commissioned somebody to make. As I said, I've long retired from all this. Back then I weighed less than 150. Now, I'm around 205. I'd look more like Garfield than some genetically "uplifted" cyberpunk assassin. But it was fun while it lasted.
That’s awesome! I’ve often wondered if your av was you! A lot of hard work and cleverness went into your cosplay- kudos! Extra points for slipping “greebled” into your description!
Yes, I've used that icon since maybe 1998 upon nearly every forum where I've registered. I use a different one for Doctor Who related sites. Might as well maintain a consistent "identity". Oh, and thanks for the kind words!
