MLB 2021 season: Corn-Driven Humidity

a) I didn't know Javy was such an asshole.

I'm no fan of Javy Baez, but I'm not entirely comfortable with the idea of "the fans have the right to express themselves, the players don't."

Edit: The fun part is, Baez's comments aren't even aggressive or anything. He's basically saying, "it sucks getting booed when we suck, so we just want to express that, because we're all in this together."

The monster.

Maybe it boils down to how the player express themselves? What those guys did just looks bad. Everybody knows NYC is a hellhole when it comes to how fans get when their teams suck.

He made a thumbs-down gesture. Oh, the fans' poor fee-fees. It's not like he's showing up at people's workplaces in New York and taking a piss on the carpet while jacking off and singing Sweet Caroline.

And it's not Baez's fault that he got traded to a place where the fans are, by and large, craven vultures.

Of course, the majority of that fan negativity is driven by Murdoch owned tabloids that have a... complicated... relationship with out-spoken minorities.

But that's the thing. Javy isn't BEING an asshole!

So the Mets are taking the thumbs down gesture and making it a positive. BIG FUCKING DEAL! As I just said, the Yankees did exactly the same fucking thing with Todd Frazier a few years ago, and nobody cared one whit about it. So why is it a big deal NOW?!?

I didn't remember the Frazier incident, but it doesn't change my opinion. Sports players being overpaid babies isn't anything new, but they are paid professionals, or at least supposed to be.

I still don't get it. How is Baez doing the "thumbs down" supposedly making him an overpaid baby? It's just a harmless gesture.

The Mets are taking a negative (if indeed it ever was that) and making it into a positive. In what way is this NOT a good thing?

"Players should be free to express themselves, like all labor!"

*Labor expresses itself*

"NO NOT LIKE THAT!"

Edit: I mean, seriously, were you calling Lee Elia an overpaid crybaby when he came out and ranted about Wrigley Field boo-birds?

I love how New York sports media tries so hard to maintain a tough-guy image, while simultaneously being the most fragile sports fans on Earth.

I am struggling to see the big deal here? Seems like the media is trying to create an issue to grab eyeballs.

Precisely the point, sir, you nailed it in one and I'm not in any disagreement. Javy Baez and Francisco Lindor issued a thumbs-down when boo-birds at Citi Field took them to task (for performance that they both admit sucks), and then the fans and media (and ownership and management) flipped the fuck out, and Ar-Pharazon decided it meant Baez is either an asshole or an overpaid baby, depending on the post.

John Smoltz and Al Leiter will no longer be allowed to do in-studio work for MLB Network because they refuse to get vaccinated.

Leiter being a chud idiot has been known for ages, but Smoltz outing himself as a moron is just the icing on the cake. Just roll up your sleeve and get the damn shot, you babies, it takes 45 seconds and I promise you aren't going to start bursting into flames like the Extremis people from Iron Man 3.

Damn, that's really disappointing in regards to Smoltz. :(

Have you ever actually listened to any of Smoltz's analysis? It's beyond insipid and makes late-era Tim McCarver sound lucid. All he does is rail about how "the game used to be" and whatnot. Empty, endless platitudes. His voice has a mildly pleasing timbre, that's about it.

He also has a goofy hatred of the Yankees that he refuses to let go, which is kind of hilarious to me. Dude, they beat you in Game 5 25 years ago even though you pitched a gem. Get the stick out of your ass.

To each their own. I enjoy listening to him call the games and I find him a breath of fresh air over Buck's bullshit. And I think you're insane to think he's worse than McCarver. Fuck that guy.

Either way, that's not reason to believe he would suddenly turn out to be an anti-vaxxer. In fact, I find that news to be a little hard to believe considering he's been calling games in person all summer, including the game in Iowa, so why is this suddenly a thing now? I had figured he would've already been vaccinated if he was there.

I'm about to look closer, but the only news sources I saw earlier, after I saw your post, were either the New York Post or someone citing the New York Post, and nothing else. I'm going to need a better source than that fucking rag.

If he is no longer in the booth announcing games, that should be a pretty clear indication something is up.
