What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

No we don't really need it just like we don't really need love songs to remind us that sometimes being in love is painful :wah: but death is a part of life and, as such, its there to be discussed, I think.

Escapism is overrated. I have no problem with shows that tackle weighty, thematically rich subjects. It's the entire point of DRAMA.

But Picard was just 1000% pure crapola, regardless of whatever thematic resonance they attempted to give it.

OK another one I have is the writers making a race so powerful that nothing can stop them, for example the Douwd. With a single thought he not only wiped out the aliens attacking the planet he was on, but every single member of that race wherever they were.

That is just so over the top ridiculous level of power. He'd probably be stronger then the Q

Also the Klingons were by nature a warrior race so how did they find the time to do science and stuff like warp drive?

Yup, lazy writing. And every time some new powerful big bad is introduced you know, eventually, our heroes will prevail and be back to normal in time for next weeks episode. I think what made the Borg so memorable was that we saw that, actually, fighting does leave mental scars and there is no quick reset after the massive losses the Federation suffered.

As for the Klingons, I always thought they probably stole the warp technology from a visiting race but in every society there has to be someone to do the admin, someones got to fix stuff, someones got to clean up. They can't do any of that stuff if each working day is disrupted by constant fights to the death over what G'tar said about N'tara behind his back.

I find Picard's behavior with Q to be just brutishly shortsightedly stupid. He talks to him like he was crap, "Get off my ship!" and all that. But all Q has to do is to put some of the crew in danger and Picard will be on his knees begging him to save them as he did in the first episode. That's stupid. It's like a small dog barking at your ankles no matter how much you try to appease it but that will fly away the moment you get angry. It's pathetic, ridiculous posturing. IOW, that's Picard!

In the case of the Douwd, I think that's not really a problem. First, it's not as if the Enterprise somehow foiled his attempts. All they did was find out he wasn't really human so his omnipotence (or approximation thereof) never caused a problem, storywise. Second, they were smart enough to never bring him back, this was just a one-off episode.

Tilly enjoyed eating gormagander untill she found out it was gormagander....... Then she vomited. Not controversial but it was a very funny scene.

Well, the guys in globes waited about half a million years, only to decide to die after all. Apparently, with all their advancements they couldn't build androids that feel like we do, maybe they should have asked Soong for some pointers...
That was Sargon's plan. :barf: Henoch's plan was to keep the hijacked body then jump into a new one (Vulcans preferred) once he wore the old one out or got damaged. I must say this is a superior method.
