I can't see a spider thread and have a few spider related questions so have created this thread but apologies if one exists. I know things spider related are not for everyone and I'm not overly keen on spiders but I know they are good guys so never kill them and prefer to evict them peacefully with a glass. The biggest spider I see in the UK is the common house spider which can be pretty big but harmless and steer well clear of humans living in wall spaces and appearing in September for the dating season. What spiders do you see and are you the kind to catch and release or exterminate time? I imagine part of it depends on the danger the species poses because catching and putting out a highly venomous spider might not be the norm in some parts of the world.

I've started this thread because I used to get False Widow spiders in my last flat and they have started appearing in my new flat so I'm starting to wonder if I attract them. One has set up home and is so small I have to take a photo with my phone and zoom in but it's a False Widow alright. No bigger than half a grain of rice right now but they grow fast.

The black widow spider I had studied in my insect book as a 13 year old was said to live in the marshes in NJ I was in NY so I was safe.. The image of the hourglass on her butt I always remembered.. I'm in NJ now and one day a big old spider walked across my bedroom floor.. I got out of bed. (Barefoot and undies on) crouching close to watch.. Saw it's but with an hourglass.. Thing is.. It was a red hourglass. So I was not worried because the hourglass in the book was white... (Black and white insect book) come to learn that it was a black widow I was 6 inches from barefoot and watching.. I was very nervous about this after I found out that the hourglass is red ..

A Chilean Rose-Hair named Posey.
She's our 3rd one. The females can live 15-20 years.
How often do you put a cricket in there for her??
About once a month we'll put a bagful in there.
I heard that they can attack the spider in large numbers.. They eat the spider.. I have seen a rat start eating a 5 foot snake when it was put into his cage!!
Be careful with the amount of crickets going on all at once.

I see how they can be 'cute' and back in 2011 when I noticed a small cellar spider had moved in to the back of my wardrobe it became like a pet that I would check on every day after work. It stayed there happily for about two months until it disappeared and I was sad to see it go.
I have a ton of spider webs in my garage and laundry room I need to take care of. I will leave them alone as long as they're in corners not in my field of vision and they don't get out of hand.
Where the hell do you live ?
It's fascinating watching a spider at work weaving away like that and then retreating waiting for visitors. Relaxing in a way.
