What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

"This just in: Star Trek being investigated as a cult. "

"The Sci-Fi Religion that doesn't take all your money"

Take the Organians for example. They were apparently at a pre-mechanical stage, yet that didn't stop Kirk et al. from beaming down in the middle of a crowd and then commenting on the lack of reaction of the people.

Don't need to avoid that if the population is already aware of extra-terrestrial life. We know Vulcan Traders visit there.

And didn't the scantily-clad people of the Edo in "Justice(TNG)" lack warp drive and 24th century Federation-level technology? Picard and his crew beamed down to a planet that didn't possess deep space travel.

That shows you how inconsistent they are about that so-called prime directive.

Is anything ever mentioned about their tech level?

Discovery is bad, but Picard is the absolute worst Star Trek series ever by a considerable margin. Just awful in almost every respect.

I might agree. DSC has moments and Saru; had ... can't even reme mber his name, the Captain who took them to the Mirror U in S1, I liked him before the big reveal of who he was.

Just can't think of one thing I like d about PIC, and it was joyless.

YMMV

As much as I enjoyed Picard, it tried to do too much too fast with that season. Not sure if they were terrified that Stewart could only do one or what.

Regardless, I don't find it to be the worst of anything. The expansion of the Romulans was greatly appreciated, Elnor was thoroughly underused, and the Curiosity class was a welcome addition to a flailing design period of Trek history.

That was Captain Gabriel Lorca. I said he was a good captain earlier before the big reveal.

Picard wasn't fun

Kirk, Sisko, Janeway, and even Archer, seem like they must be fun at parties... Picard is so boring that he could put to sleep an assembly of insomniacs.

In one episode I think "The Perfect Mate" he said that he was trying to be as dull as possible (or something to that effect). Well... mission accomplished!!:techman:

I agree with this but I really enjoyed Picard. It was never likely to be a "fun" show being as it focused on mortality and the passing of time, subjects that become more pressing the further I get from those comfortable beige carpeted days of Bermans Trek.

Do we really need the entertainment to remind us that we're all going to die?

Yeah, the older I get the more I enjoy that challenge at times. Picard wasn't fun always but it was the most engaged with Picard that I had been a long time.
