OT: Non-Trek Tie Ins discussion thread

I was just looking around on the digital library app Hoopla, and I stumbled across a whole bunch of audiobooks of the early '00s Marvel novels written by the regular Trek writers. I've been wanting to check more of these out for a while, but they're out of print, so up til now my only option had been used copies from third party sellers on Amazon. I'm always a little nervous doing that, but now that I found the audiobooks I don't have too.

But then I'd still be getting them from third party sellers, which is what I'm trying to avoid. When I order stuff online, I prefer to get it directly from the stores like Amazon, or Wal-Mart, or the companies themselves, and avoid third party retailers whenever possible.

I don't earn royalties on my 2006 Wolverine novel Road of Bones, but I'd still prefer folks didn't pirate it. Buying it used doesn't trouble me, though.

If you'd like to buy a new copy of Road of Bones, it was recently reprinted by Titan Books as part of a three-novel trade paperback omnibus called Wolverine: Weapon X. It features the titular novel by Marc Cerasini, and another Wolverine novel, Lifeblood by Hugh Matthews.

Where was piracy mentioned? Hoopla is a totally legitimate library service partnered with public libraries. I've found it a godsend during the pandemic.

Yeah, that's the only reason I use Hoopla, I know for a fact it is 100% legal. I always make sure that everything I buy or streaming is being done legally.

Roads of Bones is actually one of the two early '00s Marvel novel I got when they were first coming out. The other one was @Christopher's X-Men: Watchers on The Wall.

My wife Wrenn Simms and I have started up a very-small-press publisher, Whysper Wude, and our first project will be an anthology called The Four ???? of the Apocalypse.

This will be alternate takes on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, with stories about things like the four cats of the apocalypse, the four lawyers of the apocalypse, the four lunch ladies of the apocalypse, the four librarians of the apocalypse, the four PTA Moms of the apocalypse, the four customer service reps of the apocalypse, the four development executives of the apocalypse, and tons more!

Authors include the following Trek folk:
  • David Gerrold ("The Trouble with Tribbles," The Galactic Whirlpool)
  • David Mack (Destiny, More Beautiful than Death)
  • Peter David (New Frontier, Imzadi)
  • Dayton Ward & Kevin Dilmore (Vanguard, Legacies)
  • Michael Jan Friedman (Stargazer, Death in Winter)
  • Robert Greenberger (A Time to Love, A Time to Hate)
  • Aaron Rosenberg (The Riddled Post, Collective Hindsight)
  • Derek Tyler Attico (Strange New Worlds, Star Trek Adventures)
  • Keith R.A. DeCandido (Articles of the Federation, The Klingon Art of War)
The cover art will be by JK Woodward (Alien Spotlight, Assimilation2)/

In addition, we've got New York Times best-selling authors Jonathan Maberry and Jody Lynn Nye, award-winning authors Adam-Troy Castro and Laura Anne Gilman, and Danielle Ackley-McPhail, Russ Colchamiro ,Kathleen O. David, Randee Dawn, Mary Fan, Gerard Houarner, Gordon Linzner, James D. Macdonald, Megan Mackie, Gail Z. How do you pronounce that title? I've been wondering. (For that matter, how do you pronounce "Wude"?)

"The Four Somethings of the Apocalypse."

"The Four Whatevers of the Apocalypse."

"The Four Thingamajiggers of the Apocalypse."

Yep. Already on my preorder list. (Not that I’ve actually watched any Firefly/Serenity.)
I watched it all back in the day but though I think it was a fine show, it's not one I have any desire to read a tie-in to some fifteen years on, even if it is by Una.

If I like an author, I will read their books even if I’ve not watched the series or movie it’s based on.

Do you watch any of the show or the movie first, or do just jump right in?
Probably old news, but I just spotted that @Una McCormack is writing a Serenity novel: https://www.amazon.com/Firefly-Carnival-Una-Mccormack/dp/1789095093
Wow, I can't believe I missed that, that's a definite mus read for me.
I'm hoping they'll evetually hire @KRAD to write one of those, he did a great job on the movie's novelization, and was supposed to write an original novel, but publisher changed their minds about doing original novels before he wrote it.

No current plans for me to write a Firefly novel, as all the slots are currently taken up by other authors (like Una).
