Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

Official posters for Titan and Cerritos:

It looks like they replaced the Saurian XO with this Domino-looking redhead.

I just find it funny. After seeing the Saurian as Titan's XO in the first season finale, the novel fans contorted themselves into fits about how he must be temporarily filling in and Vale is on leave or something. Now it looks like the Saurian really was just filling in, but they're still not going with the same character who was XO in the novels.

I'm sure the novel fans are shedding enough tears to cure a drought at the moment.

The fact that it’s a novel and the TV show isn’t beholden to what a book presents? Also a thing.

Yeah, the novel was written by Swallow, probably without Lower Decks in mind. And Lower Decks was written by McMahan, probably without The Dark Veil in mind.

I expect that McMahan has all sorts of plans with these characters, otherwise he would've tossed in Christine Vale and Xin Ra-Havreii for brief cameos without a second's thought.

Well, at least send all those tears to Pacific Northwest and California please.

Not really. Never much cared for Vale. :)

Then why the hell bring it up? Unlike the Enterprise crew transfers should well be a matter of routine in Starfleet. Riker should not be looked at as a prime career model.

I just thought it was interesting that we're getting a new XO within months of the last XO at the end of Season 1. I assume we will learn more about her and the others in that image, although the Saurian XO of 2380 may be unknown and lost to history. I didn't bring up Vale.

Apologies, I was more discussing Vale specifically, not directed at you. I was tangenting on Wormhole's comments.

The only thing that matters is what’s onscreen. Until they’re brought up in-series, any novels-only characters can be wiped away in a moments notice by the actual producers of the show.

To me having two different XOs in so short a time supports the idea that people are filling in. Was Vale even XO yet in 2380/2381?

Not really. For all we know, the Saurian was there when Riker first took command of the Titan only to get transferred off at some point between the season 1 finale and season 2 premiere of Lower Decks.

Yes, in the novels she transferred off the Enterprise E and onto the Titan in 2379.
