Ferenginar

I've heard though many students from the Starfleet opted to go there to learn about the New Rules of Acquisition ... the modified and added edition ... finished by Rom the new Grand Nagus :)

With those changes, the Ferengi Alliance is practically Federation 2.0.

I was thinking more of Eurydians or that Ferengi cousin race that stole Lwaxana's brooch who might find Ferengi women attractive.

If Ferengi truly cared about profit above all else, they wouldn't just go around cheating all their customers. I think Quark might have even understood that more than the other Ferengi we see. Besides what he learned in Business As Usual, he sold medical supplies to the Bajorans at slightly above cost -- and then later managed to capitalize on that Bajoran goodwill.

In The Nagus, Zek even seems to understand that over-betrayal made profit more difficult than it had to be and launched a plan to wait to betray the Gamma Quadrant until it was really, really worth it.

they were supposed to be “us”...Modern day American Yankees anyway

Your descendants are mostly Europeans mixed with locals - a conglomerate of different cultures from all over the world - that's what makes US great.
Many brains migrated into the US and your country flourished in the past decades.
Also after WWII US tried to bring many brains especially from Europe, even Germany - into US offering them a better life.
Unfortunately there are not so many Jews as they used to be. (even as a religion) ( I mean they migrated from one place to another). But still they are pretty united and help each other.
(Not like the Ferengi ) :)
What I like about Jewish communities is that they support each other and you can find them all over the world.
They say they rule the world :)
I was talking though (without generalizing) about a certain type.... those businessmen with a lot of connections and money who can make things happen or change things if they want....
They care about their families.... but for them business is business :) And perhaps outside the family they might show stinginess.
I watched recently a movie called "A serious man" - the movie starts like this :

It's not related with what I said above..... it's just that they have the same appearance :)

But maybe I'm floating away from the subject... pretty tired already :)
Had 2 glasses of wine and I'm making comparisons between Orthodox Rabbis and Ferengi...
Perhaps there are no similarities at all :)
Thing is they are the only Star Trek race with little brains but plenty of money... it's the only thing they understand - how to make profit, while Jews have brains and don't share their money with others lol :)

You may find this interesting: in the Star Trek: Corps of Engineers novellas, where the USS da VInci has a practising Jewish captain, whose wife is a New York rabbi. Some of the SCE (Starfleet Corps of Engineer) missions involve dealing with Ferengi, e.g. "Buying Time": https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Buying_Time

Why bother visiting Ferenginar in the first place ? For the food ? Certainly not for their women .....

Visit Ferenginar for financial opportunities that wouldn't be available in the Federation where there are "Ts" and sick leave and all that other pinkocommie Federation stuff.

Also wondering if there's a button to delete what I wrote ... :)

Below the left side of the box with the test of the message you wrote, there's a line with the poster's name, when it was posted, and "edit" "delete" and "report" buttons.

Part of the reason for the Ferengi-Jewish metaphor, which seems to be unintended by the Star Trek writing staff, was that in European Christian societies lending money at interest was generally NOT allowed. Need a loan to invest in better equipment for your business? Can't get one from the Christians, so you have to get it from the Jews, who worked under their own law. Results was stereotyping of the Jews as caring mainly about money because they wanted their loans repaid, and because they tended to make money by having a monopoly on lending.

Unfortunately since I am a "newbie" I don't think I have those privileges and I have there only :
the name of the user/date and the report button.... there's no option for editing or deleting the messages.... perhaps it will be possible later...

It's probably true, somehow in today's world, people tend to worship other values than the old Gods from each religion.
So they tend to worship money - that's why in many places religion lost from its power. And some old values died or faded away in time.
Society was created this way..... and this way those who "control" money - control the masses ...... since money became a necessary evil....
If people would change this thinking people who control "the buttons" would be powerless :)
But this will never happen....
Sorry for some messages I wrote yesterday ....
Had a few glasses of these :)

Just a thought... if there's absolutely no such thing as female clothing of any sort on Ferenginar... where did Ishka get a dress?

The marketing is devious. "This fall, the canines angle forward for ferocity!"; "Canines jutting? Get'em fixed for this spring's business smarts!"; "Confuse your business partners with perfect asymmetry! Only from Honest Gell-Man's Slightly Preowned Chewsets!"

As much as the idea of a female Ferengi in clothes is horrifying, just think how much worse it might be if they were also able to sew and consequently could make their own clothes!!!

I think female Ferengis tend to look better as they age :)
If they are young they're pretty difficult to catch and seduce ....

As for Star Trek races, they are mostly a combination of certain behavior from different Earth people and from different historical events.

Some writer take certain aspects from one people or historical character, add something else from another and a third from something back in history to come up with something exciting and something which fits the story which is about to be written.

I once wrote a story where the dictator in the story was a combination of Stalin, Hitler, Mao, the North Korean Kim and an authoritative person I did have a serious conflict with at that time. later on some one read it and mention to me that the dictator reminded him of Fidel Castro.

Which actually had some truth even if I didn't think of Castro when i wrote the story.

The sad thing is that the person I did have a conflict with at that time and me made up later on and became good friends again which made me re-write some of the details in the story since I no longer had aggressive thoughts about him. Then the poor guy became ill and died abruptly and all of this gives me mixed emotions and a bad feeling today, even if I did change the story a bit. Fortunately that guy wasn't a Star Trek fan and never read my story, neither the original and nor the edited one. :weep:

As for the Ferengi, I do find them one of the most interesting races in the Star Trek universe and Quark is one of my absolute favorites, even if I personally really dislike greed and exploitation.

I think I recall an article in Starlog very early in the TNG era or just before where they did mention their plans for the Ferengi. As I recall the sexual dimorphism in the Ferengi species was so strong that the female Ferengi were perhaps something barely recognizable as a Ferengi, perhaps not even sentient. They didn't go that route and TNG Ferengi remained a bit of a joke until DS9, which thankfully fleshed them out better.
