But I got the impression everyone is excited about the new line, hoping it would fit in with the previous figures, and filling holes of characters that were not made back then. Yeah, that was what was confusing me. They just need to read some fanforums to understand what the fans really want. Thanks!
I mean, I'm excited for new figures period. But, I would prefer the 3.75 size over the older line, but that's because that is what I like to work with and customize. If they do create a new line of figures in the 4.75ish scale then I might reconsider. It will depend on the mix. Hoping for more vehicles too. What fans want and what fans will buy are two different things. Regardless, I'll be curious to see how it plays out.
Let me know! I no longer have room for extra or duplicate vehicles (despite that blue x-wing looking gorgeous.) Keep me in mind!
Will do. There's also a great SW collector forum on a site called rebelscum.com. Lots of good information, detailed pictures and a For Sale/For Trade section. Merrick/Blue Leader is definitely a big hoped for carded release when it was announced.
See, I am coming from the totally other side of this. My very first figures that I ever bought were 7" Stargate from Diamond Select Toys in 2006. I then continued with their TOS and Gotham line in the same size, and Arrow also from a different maker. A few random 6" have made it into my collection as well over the years, and of course there are the 5" Doctor Who and Torchwood ones I mentioned. Which are much less articulated and very stiff. But the 7" ones all have wonderful joints and articulation and details. And realistic faces. Double elbow joints! Double knee joints! Ankle joints! For a long time I refused the Playmates line for their plastic sheen and comical faces. I only broke down last year when getting into Voyager. I have come to love them now and think they are cute, but they are often frustrating me with how difficult they are to pose. Same for the 9" ones. I can't wait for the proper 12" 1/6 scale ones by Nanjin. So coming from that angle, 3,75" would be way too small for me, not fitting with anything I have, and I doubt they would be very flexible either. And how can you even get the faces and the paint right at that ridiculous small scale. I also went down the customizing hole though! I have so many spare bodies and body parts lying around, bought countless Chakotays and Janeways which are getting harder to find. I have several unfinished ones and should go back to them. See, there are several lines like Stargate that I would gladly move in to 7 inch for but I had already had so many Star Wars figures (bins since my dad loved it too) that it was a heady investment to make. And, I agree that some of the sculpting and details were lacking a lot in the 3.75 line but that has greatly improved in the past couple of years, with Hasbro's Star Wars Vintage Line really standing out. But, yeah, it's more that I don't have a lot of other figures that really would fit besides Star Trek figures in the old Playmates sizing so I'm hoping for something that I can really enjoy with current figures. If not, as I said, I'll find some uses for them, especially if there are vehicles that pop up.

All due respect, but you're crazy. Hasbro's 3.75 SW line keeps getting better and better. The articulation on those "TVC" figures is actually TOO good in some instances (I could do without torso splits and thigh cuts, they actually get in the way.) And the new face-printing tech is generally excellent (took them a little while to get a handle on it, some of the earlier releases are a bit dodgy. And it doesn't always stand up to extreme macro photography.) But this irrational prejudice against 3.75" will not stand! It's the one, true scale and there are plenty of figures at that size that are unreservedly terrific Very nice customs here! Well done! Night of the Comet or GTFO!
I used to do some simple customs. Mostly just head swaps like putting a DS9 Worf head on the TNG series 1 Worf body so he looks like he did (more or less) in S7 and Generations. Or taking the Picard and Data “In DS9 uniform” and painting them to look like they did in First Contact.
That may be but what is there actually out there to buy for me? I don’t like Star Wars nor Marvel superheroes. What’s left? So far I only encountered 3,75” in the Doctor Who fandom and those faces are awful. You can’t recognize David Tennant at all. I won’t pay money for that. Thank you! And Night of the Comet Robert is on the list, in the cowboy outfit! (since I already have the hat LOL) But first, El Diablo. That will take a while yet.
Yeah, I've got some simple headswaps in various states of completion - mainly the DS9 crew in First Contact uniforms and the TOS crew in monster maroons.
There was a long-running line of G.I. Joe figures in that scale. I think somebody said the only new ones being released now are repaints. There is also currently a line of DC superhero figures that looks like it's in that scale. And there have also been Indiana Jones figures and Jurassic World figures. A lot of the 3.75" figures from the last couple of decades have been incredibly detailed, with have many points of articulation. The 4.5" Playmates Star Trek figures from the 1990s were in an unusual scale, and the more cartoony sculpts and odd proportions added to their unique charm. I think maybe their Ninja Turtles figures from that time might have been in a similar scale, but I can't think of any others. Kor
Fair enough! Not much! 3.75" is becoming rarer and rarer. (Marvel discontinued their 3.75" lines years ago, though. No loss for you!) The Doctor Who figures were not great by any stretch, but the Tennant heads were actually pretty good. Matt Smith, on the other hand...bleh! I'm sure you've made Mr. Beltran very happy. Playmates released a line of SeaQuest figures at the same time as their Trek figures with the exact same proportions and aesthetics. I only know this because many folks on the Playmates custom groups regularly use them as custom fodder. But, yeah, other than that, those Playmates figs are definitely an outlier.

3.75/ 1/18 scale is in an interesting place. Yeah, Marvel has discontinued their's, while DC has recently started a more introductory series. But, the biggest place is more in original works, with companies like JoyToy, Boss Fight Studios and Marauder Task Force looking at unique military lines or science fiction original lines to fill out the scale. It's pretty interesting to see but you have to know where to look.
Yeah, those niche operations are picking up the reins dropped by the major toy companies. A lot of it doesn't appeal to me personally, but I can't argue with the quality or popularity.
Just wanted to show you my very random 3,75" collection! Although I am not sure about that Stargate guy, he seems a bit bigger (yet he is smaller than the Voyager figures). I won him in a competition. Then two Indiana Jones figures that I bought in a dollar store (or rather Euro shop) more for the accessories they came with than the actual figure. And William Shatner from Twilight Zone. That's it I'm afraid! No wait, there is also this Space Precinct guy. I haven't even watched the show. I have no idea why I bought him, my only excuse is that I always like a man in an uniform. I had not realized how small he was when I got him. Someone probably would be very happy to own him. I should throw him back into the market. He seems to be even smaller than William Shatner though!
Yeah, the Stargate figures were an odd scale and didn't fit with either Star Wars or Star Trek sadly.
I just saw this thread on the home page other day and had to jump in. I was a kid back in the heyday of Playmates old Star Trek line, and I collected them like crazy. I still have the giant blue plastic bin filled with them, along with the TNG shuttle craft, Enterprise-D bridge and a whole bunch of the role play phasers and a tricorder. I'm really curious to see what the new figures are going to look like, I'm hoping they'll go for a size and style that will fit in with the old ones. As for figures in general, I prefer the bigger figures like the DC Mutiverse, Marvel Legends, and Star Wars Black Series lines.
