News RUMOR: Whittaker potentially leaving

I expect the first special will be New Year's Day, and while it's annoying to have another Specials year, at least they can have a proper relaunch for the 60th.

Given that the eight episode Series 13 has now become a six episode series, it looks like they've just moved two episodes to next year to avoid having another year without anything.

As for who will be 14 - first we have to see who the new showrunner is, and look at who's been in stuff they've done before.

My only wishes for the new showrunner are (a) that they're not a fanboy (or girl) so we get some fresh ideas and (b) they can manage to make a series a year, every year.

With Michael Sheen as the new Doctor  and David Tennant as the new Master
Sheen as The Doctor, Tenant as a regeneration glitch, popping up in his mind to bug him occasionally.

Other options ?

Jo Martin, perhaps a little too obviously. Personal favourites Chris Marshall and Richard Aoyade, or a leftfield shot with Aisling Bea.

I'm quite happy with the recent announcements and the way they've been handled. The reveal that it's a linked story was very much appreciated - a shakeup of format is long overdue, and changing the showrunner and lead gives more hope for change. We all new Jodie was leaving and let's hope it's with a bang.

I like Ms Doctor, it's just the writing has been crap, and the companions were... Well rhino dung level of crap.. Terrible.
Not sad to see chinibal to go. But Jodie has bben good in the role when given good stuff.

I don’t know if I want a fanboy/girl but I really want someone who is excited and pleased to be there and really has a vision for the show. I definitely felt that both RTD & Moffat felt that way. I never felt the same about Chibnall, perhaps unfairly; I can’t put my finger on why I feel so, but the impression I got that was, although he is obviously a long-term fan, he accepted the role reluctantly. I guess he had a vision, whether or not I liked it, it just didn’t seem a particularly original or strong one to me. YMWD.

Honestly, I’d be fine with them parking the show for a year or two until they got the right person or persons to move forward with it.

Yaz is good. I was surprised that Bradley Walsh was even bearable (and he was), but Ryan, and specifically Tosin Cole was absolutely dismal.

I'd have liked this season to have just been The Doctor and Yaz.

Oooooooo...I love that idea!

A positive look on this press release instead of doom and gloom of BBC's "handling" of it?! How dare you!

I still find it bizarre that we went from a first series that required no previous knowledge to follow to a second that dragged in all sorts of Original Series continuity down to the bloody Mobius Doctors.

Glad to see Chris is leaving as show runner. Pity he didn't leave before deciding to retool the entire history of the Doctor & Galifrey. I like Jodie but for me she's not been given a good character defining script for her tenure - There's not a single episode, I've rewatched unlike the countless re-watches I've done for RTD/Moffat era.

I doubt it'll ever be mentioned again once he's gone. Which should free up Jo Martin for Big Finish to use for people who want more stories with her.

If we can’t have Moffat back
Hell, no! The hubris was terrible, like the last season of Sherlock.

Personal favourites Chris Marshall and Richard Aoyade, or a leftfield shot with Aisling Bea.
Hell... no. Not sure what I want, but I think they are all wrong! I like them, but no in Who.

Jo Martin, I could live with.

Also, split the EP role in 2, one person who actually produces, and one who writes! Let them concentrate on getting it down and in a coherent shape! Give it to me! I'll retcon that bloody Timeless Child crap out so fast it'll look like the blink of an eye!

Jodie was okay, but like Capaldi saddled with useless scripts. Chibber's reluctance was apparent.

Also worth noting is Capaldi's comments from the set of The Suicide Squad. The Beeb makes a shitton of money from Who, they need to put some back in.

Edgar Wright as show runner
Simon Pegg AND Nick Frost as the Doctor (the regeneration went weird) the companions never know which 14 will show up.:p

AIUI they weren't sure how much they'd get in the can because of covid regs, so aimed for between 6 and 8, then apparently settled on 7 plus a (New Year) special. So I guess they turned one more episode into a special, or replaced it with one, which will be either an Easter or May Bank Holiday one, and will now have to shoot the third special for airing in November 2022. (it's part of the BBC's Centenary, which is November 14th - I'd expect the 13th or 20th as those are Sundays next year, and Thirteen's era has been Sunday-centric)

That would be epic. Like Staged without the webcams.
And a whole episode from Tenants point of view, lounging in a sitting room in Sheen's mind, critiquing everything Sheen does in a crisis.

And banging on alternate walls telling Nine and Eleven to keep the noise down.

"They're only jealous 'cause I've got a window, see..."

Turns to yell at a wall - "No, you can't 'Nip round ' for a look !"

Yeah, that's what I really wanted, too. But at least there will be a built-in window for plenty of Big Finish adventures between the two. But that probably won't happen for at least another five to ten years, depending on interest.

Mark Strong as the Doc..

Craig Ferguson?
Dougray Scott
Daniel Radcliffe?
Robert Carlyle
Alan Cummings
Tom Ellis? (Lucifer)
Toby Stephens
Oh Matt Ryan!
Charlie Cox
Jason issacs

Anna Taylor Joy.. If you can aford her..
Daisy Ridley
Bonnie Wright ... Finally a ginger
Hellen Mirren. Older woman like capaldi? Why not

True.

I'd hoped there might have been a Smith or Capaldi box announced over Covid while they were all 'resting'. Or at the very least a Martin.

Having said that, we got an Ecclestone. Mustn't be greedy...
