What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

TV and film Trek is only half the story. The novels and comics make up the whole picture.

But they're not can0n!!1! yes but this franchise just swapped out it's entire 23rd century, I'm not sure that really matters anymore.

Actually, it never mattered.

Actually, it never mattered.

It only matters a little bit.

At least Coda is taking the change into account. (At least I assume it is.) So it's not like they're just starting over from scratch and pretending the novelverse never existed.

If they had...THEN it'd matter a lot. I think I would have a problem with that.

Whoops, silly me.
There are.... is it one or two? I was thinking TOS but is the animated series considered as a Trek series of its own or a part or continuation of TOS....
I've always considered it a part of TOS but that's me. I think it is technically a separate series.

Not sure this is controversial, but my wife pointed out something that I always thought in my head during VOYAGER rewatches.

Of all the characters on VOYAGER, Neelix got the best sendoff. And in all honesty, he more than deserved it.

Well, given that Kes had "Fury", and the rest of the crew had the end of "Endgame", I can't say the bar is set very high.

But yes, I liked Neelix's goodbye as well.

And controversially enough, I liked Neelix.

I liked Neelix a lot, too. At first, I can understand the complaints about his coming off as annoying. But as the series went on, he toned it down and actually used his exuberance as a tool to help various crew out when they were stumped on an issue.

Plus, I thought his character was quite tragic. He lost his entire family... his extreme joyfulness was overcompensating for such a devastating thing.

On a similar note, I also liked Lwaxana Troi. "Dark Page" explained SO MUCH of why she was so over the top and overbearing with Deanna. I always felt that when they conceived of Neelix, Lwaxana was a spiritual inspiration for him. At the very least, "JETREL" could very likely have been the piece the writers needed to explain his traits.

I hate the design of the Odyssey class from Star Trek Online, and do not regard the Enterprise-F as canon in any way. (Actually I hope this isn't that controversial an opinion.)

It not being canon isn't a controversial opinion, it's a fact. ;)

Personally I don't like the design because it's just a fat Enterprise-E.

Well favourite shows, right now:
1.DS9
2.Lower Decks
3. TNG
4.TOS
5.DISC
6.VOY
7.ENT?
8.TAS? And it really physically hurts me to rank it on last.
9.PIC because, evebn though I understand it's of better quality than TAS, ENT and Voyager I don't even enjoy a single episode of that series, so I have to rank it last. What use is quality to me if I don't like the finished product? At least ENT, and TAS have some "so bad it's good" episodes.

Fair enough. I'm abstaining for now because I haven't seen enough of Picard or Discovery. I can't get into binge watching Trek on a smartphone, and Paramount seems incapable of making a PS5 app.
