UK has a third version (bd steelbook, not stated if it has additional content), not sure about other places.
If you recall, this animation was rumoured at the same time as Abominable Snowmen, so hopefully that will be next...

I'm shocked at how quickly this is coming out. They announced Web of Fear's re-release, it feels like years ago and its only been in the last few weeks we've had artwork, trailers and a release date. As I said in the animated thread, I'm nit sure whether to buy these standalone animations as they'll presumably be re-released in the Blu-Ray box sets.

They almost certainly will be included in the collection boxsets. I'm happy to buy them on release because I want to see them, and the boxset could be years away. I also want to support the range. If you're not desperate to see them it probably makes sense to wait for the boxsets.

Its less lack of desperation, more how many times will I see them before I'm able to buy the box set? I've already double-dipped on Power of the Daleks and when the season four boxset comes out, that'll be three times with that story.

It's hardly secret that Evil, Snowmen and Galaxy 4 are in the works. The oddity is Wheel, the last bit needed for a complete season five/Cyber box.

The animation for this one (as oppose for the single episode of The Web of Fear) is much better.

Based solely on the fan reconstruction I watched, I wasn't all that impressed by The Evil of the Daleks (didn't help that I didn't like Victoria) but hopefully this animated version will improve my opinion of it, much like the found episodes of The Enemy of the World skyrocketed my opinion of it.

I just hope I don't have to wait an extra year to get this serial like in the past. I'm really sick of the long delay between region releases. In this day and age, it's profoundly stupid (and it was already pretty dumb when DVDs were the leading format).

The region delay for the classic era DVD releases back in the day wasn't that bad, North America typically had them a few months after they were released in Britain. I remember making a game out of taking note when a serial was released in Britain and predicting when it would be out in North America. But for some reason, these animated reconstructions tend to take a whole year (or longer) after their British releases to be released in North America, which is all kinds of stupid.

It's because BBC America co-fund them, so have an exclusive broadcast window in the US. It's similar to how ST Picard and Lower Decks are released on Blu-ray in the UK months after North America gets them.

Ah, of course. That does make...some...sense.

Still incredibly infuriating, especially since so many people don't even use cable anymore.

If it helps, it's been made clear by one of the key people who does the animations that without this deal, we would not be getting the animations at all as the finances would not stack up. DVD sales alone not being enough was why the earlier animations fizzled out to begin with.

Very excited, much nicer animation than what we saw in The Web of Fear.

Now that we've got so many Troughton animations (which definitely should have been the priority with how many were missing compared to with Hartnell) but now it'd be nice if they could go back and finish off either Season 1 or 2 of Classic Who since they're both very complete in their current state and I really want a b/w season released in the Blu-ray collection.

Isn't Hartnell's era going to be a problem to finish in the type of animation they use because of Marco Polo? Something to do with all the costumes in that story or something?

I don't think we'll see any B&W BD's until everything else is done. They will try to delay putting animations in the collections as long as possible, as they won't want to train us that we can wait a while and get them cheaper. Which is understandable given how tight the animation budgets are.

Yes. Hartnell has three tough serials:

Marco Polo - number of individual characters & costumes + duration of the story
Dalek's Master Plan - duration of the story
The Crusades - number of individual characters & costumes

And Troughton just has "The Highlanders" (tartan is impossible in 2D animation)

I wonder if they will use the Web method for highlanders, as tartan is easy in 3D. Won't look anywhere near as nice, but if it's the only way the story can be done I'll take it.
