Spoilers Season 2 Trailers, Previews, and Promos

It’s kind of similar to how the “modern” UFP seal made its way back into the pre-TNG era, even as far back as the auditorium for the signing of charter in ENT. It was the logo of the (production) time so that’s what they used regardless of the era.

Not sure I understand the split delta though or what it’s meant to represent.

IMO, it was just the newest version of the Starfleet insignia created by Trek's art department at the time and was intentionally carried over from DIS to PIC.

At least in Picard it has some connection to previous series, the badge is based off the Alternate Future badge seen in a few episodes, just with the top corners cut off.

The centre piece yes, but the olive branches are styled differently

Well, at least Strange New Worlds won't have the split delta (on the Enterprise uniform)

Wouldn't be surprised if they kept all the other Discovery iconography though.

I guess it can now be said the inspiration for the current split delta came just prior to TOS and that Starfleet is just going back to it.

Its not a retcon, we’ve never seen the starfleet logos of 2390s before.

I'm sure most here know exactly what I mean when I say that the split delta was never a "thing" throughout all of TOS / Movies / TNG / other TNG-Era series.

The AGT / Endgame "future" badge only came about because the delta in that design was a hollow outline and the backing behind it was two vertical bars, as against the horizontal bar with the central cut-out that the was designed for FC and subsequently used in later DS9 (and those VOY scenes set on Earth). It wasn't a deliberately "split delta" in the same way that they have done for S1/2 DSC in the 2250s and then again in S3 for the 3180s.

I have no issues with the spilt delta design for DSC; it's a bit of a quirky design but it is what it is.

I'm just not all that enamoured of them deliberately shoving it into PIC as if it had been there all the time when quite clearly it hadn't. In that respect, I would argue that inserting it into the new series with an established history really is something of a retcon relative to all the previous designs of Starfleet insignia -- and was largely unnecessary. The split design magically appearing in the future, having been absent for centuries prior, is similarly dubious.

It's not that big a thing and it's hardly a deal-breaker so I don't want to over state its significance; I just find it mildly irritating that they feel the need to insinuate their design change into other series and time periods.

Nicely done!

No criticism of your work, but I still dislike the continuing effort to retcon the Disco-style split Delta into every future era. I really wish they would stop that!
I thought it was quite clever how they modified the "All Good Things" badge slighty to echo Discovery.

Like it or not, they're gonna reference Discovery in everything. It was the first of the modern Trek shows and they're determined to squish it's retconned look into the continuity, as with Pike's Enterprise in Pic S01E02.
