News? Stories from Dubious Sources

Remaking TNG is a very obvious idea. It's got as much cultural saturation as TOS, if not more. I don't doubt that people at CBS/Paramount have tossed around the idea.

It's not something I personally want to happen. There's plenty of proof that Star Trek can succeed by going in new directions. Revisiting the past doesn't appeal to me. But given the current state of uncertainty due to the pandemic, a remake might be seen as a safer bet than something new.

The giant everything crossover is also a very obvious idea. That doesn't mean it'll actually happen.

If they want to revisit TNG, just revisit TNG. The show ended 17 years ago. That's the same gap between the end of TOS and Voyage Home.

Though I'm all for James McAvoy playing Picard in a flashback.

Paramount Reportedly Planning Star Trek Movie With Multiple Captain Kirks (wegotthiscovered.com)
Following the passing of Leonard Nimoy, fans were hoping that William Shatner would occupy the legacy role occupied by his former co-star in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek franchise. The idea of alternate timelines was largely dropped for Justin Lin’s Beyond, though, before the planned fourth installment found itself mired in development hell, and it’s still yet to escape.

There are now two Star Trek movies in active development, both of which are being produced by Abrams and Bad Robot, but only one of them has been given a release date. There’s first is being written by Discovery scribe Kalinda Vasquez, and a mystery second project is penciled in to hit theaters in the summer of 2023.

Based on what we know so far, neither of those films are expected to reunite the Enterprise crew from the Kelvin series, despite the stars of the most recent trilogy repeatedly outlining their desires to return. However, a new rumor claims that Paramount are planning on uniting multiple versions of Captain Kirk in a future film, but the details don’t stretch much farther than that.

wait so the Disco writer movie isnt going to be the summer 2023 release?? i guess we could be getting that one as a P+ film . and whatever this Kirk film is for theatres in summer 23 (the Hemsworth ST4 reworked to include Shatner instead? after the Hemsworth ST4 was adapted from the Orci/Shatner ST3?!)..

New WGTC article half-debunks itself, thus saving everyone else the trouble of doing so:

We Got this Covered said:
A new rumor claims that an animated Star Trek movie is now in development, but there’s no additional details provided as to whether it’s planned as a theatrical or streaming exclusive, if it takes place in the same continuity as either the small screen, Kelvin or Lower Decks mythologies, or even the merest hint of any plot or character information.

The report comes from the same outlet that has “exclusively” revealed over the last few months that Brie Larson was pushing to join Star Trek, Tom Hardy’s Shinzon was marked for a comeback, Kelvin spinoffs were incoming, J.J. Abrams was returning behind the camera to helm a new blockbuster and a film with multiple Captain Kirks was happening, none of which have come close to being corroborated or confirmed as of yet, so don’t get too hyped about an animated effort until any official word is made available by the studio.

Not necessarily. The joy of shorter seasons is that one can do multiple projects in a year.

She won't be doing 2 TV shows at the same time. Filming for one season lasts for about 6 months. She wants to do movies as well.

Okay fine. But who's to say her character on this Witcher show will last more than a season anyway? Or that the series will last? As it is, we know that its going to be a bit before Yeoh's Trek show happens anyway. They've said they're at their limit for the moment. I'm not concerned. If S31 happens, cool. If not, no skin off my teeth.

Exactly. It's not like they don't have a slate full of Trek to focus on.

I will be very happy I S31 happens and won't be overly fussed if it doesn't happen. But, saying it won't happen because an actor is working on other projects strikes me as just wishing for it not to happen. I don't know. I'm completely biased in hoping this project happens because so many don't want it to happen. Yes, it's irrational.
