I'm trying to figure out what important things happened in the 21st century in the Trek universe... In other words, what could ave changed and caused an alternate timeline? (I don't remember the movies very well and I didn't watch Enterprise.)

More like a callout to Disco (I doubt The Orville is even on Alex Kurtzman's radar).

Alex has described Disco's "mirror" universe as being an "alternate universe." (What happens on the "road not taken"?)

It's a step beyond the simplistic "Let's turn everyone evil!"

I wouldn't worry. The implants are likely just gone for this season in order to symbolize that something is rotten in this timeline, but once the timeline is fixed by the end of the season, the implants will be back.

Yes, definitely, I agree. The thicker, swoosh-esque star trail is more consistent with the Starfleet emblem created for Discovery and even the one we saw in DS9. And I never liked the FF QType font used in the season 1 iteration.

Its not a retcon, we’ve never seen the starfleet logos of 2390s before.
