The Suicide Squad aka Suicide Squad 2 Pre-Release Thread

That would explain the similarity in their backstories. I didn't think it was possible for me to get more pumped for the movie, but this trailer did it.

Elba's character was defnitely reported to be Deadshot at first. I remember the conversations on this forum where we were speculating whether Elba's Deadshot was going to be basically the same as Smith's or whether they recast because they wanted to make significant changes to the character. Whether those reports were actually accurate to what was happening, though, I don't know for sure.

The trailer is fun, almost as fun as the first suicide squad trailer from way back when. Hopefully this one is more reflective of the actual movie then that one was.

And, just to nitpick for a minute, the Squad is once again apparently in the middle of some massively publicized crisis. What is it with Suicide Squad screenwriters that apparently don't understand the concept of 'covert ops'?

I thought the story was they got Elba to play Deadshot, but then decided to have him play someone else in case Smith wanted to come back.
I can’t honestly remember if Elba was initially cast as Deadshot or if everyone just jumped to that conclusion because they’re both black actors of a similar age and build. But either way, the end result is the same - they’re keeping the door open for Smith to return.

I'd just like to know when Bloodsport had a chance to shoot Superman with a kryptonite bullet and where he even got the kryptonite to make the bullet; it's not like Superman had much of a career before being killed by Doomsday in 'BvS'. Unless this is post 'Justice League' resurrection.

No it's a comedy, we're not supposed to think about it.

If I remember right there’s an 18 month gap between MoS and BvS so it could’ve happened there or post Justice League.

At this point, with the DCEU basically officially dead, there is no reason to believe that The Suicide Squad has to line up with the timeline/canon of the Snyder films. Its probably partially canon with the first Squad film, and probably canon with the Harley Quinn film, but besides that they're probably just doing/saying what they want (outside of things that could screw with possible future things that WB/DC have planned). So, its likely that the Superman they reference isn't the MoS/BvS/JL one anyway, so the timeline doesn't have to fit with the other stuff.

No audience member is going to ignore that SS2 is one--a sequel to a film that featured a cameos from Affleck's Batman (among other Snyder film elements), or two--the fact that Leto's Joker is in ZSJL. SS2 is in that same universe.

Its not even called Suicide Squad 2, which has to be on purpose, and has really no similarities outside of sharing some cast members. They might specifically mention events of the first movie, but its no more a snyderverse film then Shazam or Aquaman are/their sequels will be. The Flash film is already apparently killing off that universe anyway, so any potential third Suicide Squad film will almost certainly expressley be non-canon with Snyder's stuff. Hell, WW84, for as bad as it was, went pretty against the Snyder films anyway.

The Suicide Squad is really its own thing at this point. I doubt anyone at WB is even bothering to pretend Mos/BvS/JL matter at all in the context of this film. Even if any of those get referenced, it will probably be vague enough to ignore or work in another context. I'd bet on Harley Quinn's film getting referenced, some of the events of the first Suicide Squad getting mentioned, but any potential Superman/Batman type references being things that could work even while ignoring the Snyder stuff.

WB has already said the snyder stuff was done after the Snydercut, and the Snydercut isn't even canon to the DCEU stuff that got released anyway. Its over, Snyder and his stuff are gone and WB is moving on, keeping the non-Snyder stuff that worked and starting over with other things.

Just seen the trailer. Not getting any love at all for this - not even slightly, cast, characters, nothing.

Don't like.
