Exactly. He was hunting for power, while feeling more and more sidelined in trying to help his people and maintain his power. That he went to extremes of evil isn't surprising. It may not be to everyone's liking but the seeds were already there.

I am sorry but the Pah Wraiths and everything around them must have been retconned about half a dozen times in this series to the point of absurdity. As for the book, one wonders why it was stored at all and not burned from the very beginning since it is all it takes to cancel its powers...
Probably because the ancient Bajorans were not sure what to do and the Prophets were not clear in their visions being outside linear time and all that.

So I guess Dukat really "jumped" the shark!
The Pah Wraith storyline ruined Dukat for me, which is why I consider Waltz the last great Dukat episode.

Yes, there that moment when you're wondering what the hell is going on and realize that it's all in Dukat's head.
Still less plot holes or absurd storytelling than the last the latter 4 seasons of Game of Thrones.
True but GOT is not Sci. fi., to be honest, I don't really know what it is.
Let's examine its ingredients:

-Poisoning
-Humiliation

What does all this add up to?
Dukat may have been "redeemable" had he converted to the side of good early in the series but by the time the temptations of the Dominion made themselves evident the man was a lost cause. The fact that he was willing to murder his own daughter along with untold billions of others in the Bajoran system when the Bashir Changeling attempted to destroy the Bajoran Sun with the trilithium weapon was just more evidence that he was hopelessly awful with no remaining destiny but self-immolation.

Fantasy, but only because of the dragons and the undead. The rest are all possible in Science Fiction and every other form of fiction. Not sure why anyone would think otherwise.
I disagree. He might have been able to come off as attempting to atone for his past deeds, but being Prefect of Bajor, with the body count that was amassed under his rulership, isn't something you get to come back from.

I'm gonna nominate two TNG episodes.
First, "The Naked Now." It's a tough job to assassinate brand new characters that haven't been established yet (save in the premier), but this one manages to do it. The worst offenses are the cringeworthy sexual tension scenes between Picard and Beverly and the clumsy adaptation of Kevin Riley's shenanigans from "The Naked Time" into those of Wesley. Troi whining about wanting to get into Riker's mind? Also awful. The characters being intoxicated is a poor excuse for this badly executed, unfunny garbage. One saving grace, I did find the scenes between Yar and Data to be amusing. YMMV.
Second, "Journey's End," aka "Wesley Ascends." Whatever. Don't forget to assassinate the mother, too: "Now you be sure and dress warmly on those other planes of existence."

And no, T'Pol's Trellium-D addiction and outbursts of emotions aren't character assassination. She was walking the tightrope of her Vulcan upbringing the whole time she was serving aboard Enterprise. Having a female Vulcan do some of the things she did in Seasons 3 and even later were not miswriting the character or ruining her. She was always an egg waiting to crack a little on a ship full of humans.
How is that in any way related to Science Fiction?
They are things that can and have happen in science fiction books. I thought I was pretty clear on that.
But it's not scientific at all, it's a mix of medieval practices and... magic.
Because higher standards and Gene's Vision or something.
