Thanks for posting this. It shouldn't come as a shock but of course it does.

The Romulan Commander returned in Star Trek Continues ("To Boldly Go" Parts 1 and 2, from 2017), and I spent the first ten minutes flabbergasted, absolutely stunned and mystified, that Joanne Linville could do it. Her voice, her face, her body -- all the same? She literally hadn't aged a day in 49 years? That was impossible, but I was looking at it.

I finally had to pause the show and search out the facts online. Turns out it was her lookalike daughter, Amy Rydell. And she was so damn fabulous; one of the greatest things we got from the fan film era.

Sad to hear, of course, but it sounds like she lived long and prospered.

Very sad news. She might have been my favorite female guest star on TOS.

RIP. I just read this a couple of hours ago and was saddened. That's not my favorite script, but who cares - her acting job was outstanding. Thanks to Zap for pointing out the Star Trek Continues episodes her daughter was in - I will have to watch those for sure. RIP, Ms. Linville, and thanks for a fantastic career. May your memory be a blessing.

I'm not up on "Strange New Worlds" I only heard of it yesterday.
But, if it's got Captain Pike aboard the Enterprise, at that point, no one had seen the Romulans in 100 years...

That's true and a great point. Hopefully they have learned their lesson about canon violations - or better put, outright contradicting Star Trek. (I thought Discovery's S2 and S3 seemed to indicate that they had; the two new appearances by famous Star Trek characters were pretty reverent.) What they could of course do is have a Romulan episode where the two sides never see each other, but the audience does see the Romulans.

Well, they'd have to do it in a way that no Federation crew survived.
According to "Balance of Terror" no one had even seen a Romulan Ship for 100 years.

I'm sorry. I'm getting distracted and off topic. Joanne Linville was an excellent actress in the shows I've seen her and her appearance on Star Trek was the highest point in the entire 3rd Season.

Rest in Peace, Ma'am, and thank you.

Gotta say, the Female Romulan Commander was one of the few characters in TOS, that I found genuinely interesting and the Enterprise Incident is probably my favourite TOS episode, largely due to her, and the superb acting job see provides.
I dunno what it is, but I love the way she said "There is Mr.Spock's unspoken truth..."

Yes Amy Rydell. This was at a convention a couple years ago...literally her twin.

RIP. One of my favorite Romulans of all time, one of my favorite episodes and a nice addition to Star Trek. She will be missed. :weep:

In my own little head canon, Spock and the Commander found a Separate Peace.

I just read her mini-bio. She was married to director Mark Rydell for a few years. Again, RIP.

I did that same double-take. BTW. Ms. Linville did a guest shot on "The Fugitive", playing the wife of the DA who prosecuted Richard Kimble, the lead character. Who played the DA? James Daly. AKA Flint.

That photo breaks my heart. My mom was also born in 1928 and looked a lot like her just before she passed a couple years ago.
The 4 main actors made that episode a classic despite not having a perfect script and I revisit it more often than any other 3rd season episode. I think the episode will mean even more to me now.
