Rewatching TNG (Season 3).

The uniforms are much improved from the first 2 seasons, but still have some work to do.

Were there some differences to the ones seen later in the show? I didn't register any and always thought they never changed again after this point beside the introduction of the uniform jacket for Jean Luc in "Darmok'.

If I remember correctly, the first few episodes of Season 3 use a slightly different uniform design/cut than the rest of Seasons 3-7, I think I read somewhere that during the first few episodes they tried to make the new, cotton uniforms look form-fitting like the old spandex ones which led to a very awkward hybrid.

Boobytrap was such an excellent episode! The end of the episode where Picard pilots the Enterprise out on thrusters and gravity was suspenseful. I was on the edge of my seat.

It really is an interesting episode but it has one problem that I hope someone here can solve. =)
Assimilators. There's some tech that can power itself by enemy's weapons? Is it something like when the Borg adapt? Wouldn't it be a good idea to cover you ship with those assimilators, when enemy fires, you get that power to yourself. It really is a nice episode but.... that bothers me. Save this episode. =)

It's been a while since i last rewatched "Evolution", but i can't remember any details of the uniforms in that episode that resemble the S1/S2 ones beside the form fitting aspect

They seemed to be practically identical to the ones from later episodes. Were there other more subtle changes beside this?

Pretty sure it's just the form fitting aspect. the picture on Memory Alpha also shoes all sorts of awkward seams that were needed to create the "form fitting" aspect.

The early S3 ones had more seams on the front, back and arms. I've noticed this as I am currently halfway through S3.

This might explain why they looked more voluminous later on. I think that stitching helped them be more form fitting.

This seems to be on the yellow uniforms further into the season than the reds. Add in that the episodes may be shown in a different order than filmed.

There's an interesting thing for fan fiction, why did the season 3 early uniforms have those seems in the front and later disappeared. Somekind on wardobe malfunction after changing into new uniforms after season 2?

Because the Costuming Department changed the uniform design.

Season 3 is, in my opinion, the "transition" season, i.e. where the show was in the process from moving between the era of "prototype TNG" (seasons 1-2) and "real TNG" (seasons 4-7). Looking back over the episodes of season 3, it's definitely superior to both of the first two seasons, but not all that much in the case of season 2 (a season which I think is actually somewhat underrated). Season 3 doesn't magically become a brand new show, like some people on IMDb claim. There's still quite a few janky episodes that fall flat.

Still, it was good getting new uniforms and getting Beverly back (even though I actually liked Pulaski). I don't think season 3 is on the same level as seasons 4 and 5 (the real peak of TNG, in my opinion), but it's definitely superior to seasons 1, 2, 6 and 7.

It seems we all look at these things differently, I've always felt that seasons 3 and 4 are very similiar and also the best of TNG.

But, no matter what season, it's "real TNG" if it has TNG opening credits.

I look at it almost the same way. Especially the first half of Season 4 is still very similar to 3, with the second half already becoming increasingly like 5 with every episode imo.

The season 3 and 4 feel (or what it is to me) should've stayed for the rest of the series. =)
However, there's nice feeling with the later seasons too.

Yeah, i liked the (different) atmospheres of the first three and half seasons way more than the blandness in later TNG, although there were still great episodes (like "The Inner Light" for example).
