I look forward to your pics. I really hope it turns out well. I am really enjoying the Akira XL, it looks absolutely stunning! I hope to add a Nebula XL to my collection!
Fair enough. Still, I rather this board wouldn't descend into yet another place like Reddit, Twitter or Facebook, where you hide behind anonymity in order to constantly tell people how supposedly bad their work is. I'm sorry, as an artist myself I'm a bit sensitive to non-artists who seem to think every artist who's putting out their work on the internet is somehow inviting everyone to be a critic. What I'm saying is, let's not go around telling people the result of their countless hours of hobby work somehow doesn't measure up to some arbitrary standard. I am really digging the Akira XL, any other XL that anyone would recommend aside from Reliant? I saw and heard the Excelsior is good but not great (It’s based on the “Flashback” Excelsior, I am told). I am more interested in the classic canon ships. Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

The XL E-J is pretty awesome. The small version from the main line doesn’t do it justice, but the XL definitely shows better detail on this massive ship. I have a soft spot for that one for some odd reason. Maybe because it’s one hell of a battle wagon in STO.
It was designed and illustrated by Robert Kline https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Robert_Kline He designed about 85% of the ships and aliens etc. on The Animated Series. The Bonnie was designed originally as the derelict ship for "Beyond the Farthest Star". Gene Rodenberry wasn't very clear with what he wanted and when he was told it was an old derelict ship, he didn't say ALIEN ship so Bob started going through a number of Starfleet ships, some of which you can see in the ship graveyard in "The Time Trap" including the Bonaventure. In the end he did about 100 designs before they landed on the 'watermelon vine ship' you see in that first episode.
Looks pretty good.
Edit: But they also say on Facebook that the stand doesn't properly support the model, since the saucer section is heavy and the stand only attaches to the thin plastic nacelle struts.

Several stands in the main line, and particularly the XL's, have a hard time holding the front-heavy weight of the models they're supposed to support. They didn't really think those things through so well. I get the impression they wanted to avoid putting center-of-mass holes in the models to make them as solid-looking as possible. Unfortunately, that painted them into a corner for what they could do with the stands, forcing them to work around the external structural designs of the ships. Doesn't always work out, sadly. "A" for effort, though.

I guess my only gripe on the Thunderchild is that the screen accurate model doesn’t have its name on the hull. Only the registry number. I saw people selling decals for that on eBay. It’s sorta stupid, but I get it. I am cool with the ship with no name…

You see I been through the system in a ship with no name, it felt good to be out of the rain...
Seriously, though, I was always thought the "First Contact" ships had unusually low numbers for ships that looked newer than TNG era ships. Same goes for the Prometheus.
From the pics on eBay, for the Nebula XL, there appears to be some misaligned windows on the recessed windows on ventral side of the saucer section, just like on the XL Enterprise-D. *sigh* I am a little disappointed, but I hope that’s the only flaw.

Honestly damn near every model with windows in the entire series has that problem. They should stop molding the recesses into to hull and just go with the paint/decal. Solves that problem completely.
It appears the model lacks painted impulse engines on the aft saucer.
(Just a minor gripe)
Before I order, I want to be sure the nacelles and sensor pod aren't droopy or otherwise misaligned.
Did the Nebula class ever have visible impulse engines?
Funny you asked! The actual answer, as I recall, is no. I think Sternbach once addressed it saying the tiny red dots on the back of the saucer was it. I think they thought about putting a big one on the back of the sensor pod tower, but they never did, on the physical model or otherwise.
Ah, it's a pity it doesn't just reuse the Galaxy-class saucer.
