IIRC, Michael B Jordan's contract does include an option for a Rainbow Six movie.

Great to hear. I really liked the book a lot. I hope they can do it justice. There will be definitely be opportunities for tense action. I hope they hire a good director who knows how to film spec ops or SWAT team type action scenes.

Also, in the book, the villain is a fanatic environmentalist. I am guessing "woke hollywood" will change it to a Muslim terrorist or something.

I am sure there will be changes to the book. But I hope they do a pretty faithful adaption of the book. It's great plot that lends itself to a lot of great action in different locations around the world. I think one of my favorite scenes in the book is actually the action scene in the amusement park.

I'm re-reading Rainbox Six at the moment.

Not sure doing a book where the bad guys are playing to further distribute a bio-weapon in the guise of a vaccine would be a good thing at the moment.

Enough kooks in the world atm without feeding their conspiracy theories.

But they should stop trying to adapt clancy's books for movies. Not only do they butcher the plot but they do a massive disservice to some of the characters. The John Clark of Clear and Present Danger wouldn't be the John Clark leading Rainbox Six.

Yeah, I didn't think of the bio-weapon "vaccine" part of the villain's plan in the book. They would not want to fuel any anti-vaccine sentiments. So they would need to change that part.

Also, I think Clark is older in the book than Michael B Jordan is. So there is another difference with the book. I am sure there would be many such changes.

Without Remorse (the book) starts in 1970 and Clark's age is around 27 so probably born in 42 or 43 so by the time Rainbow Six comes around he's very late 50s thus now and administrator and having Ding and co for all the action work.

I wonder if they'll consider a John Clark / Jack Ryan team up with John Krasinski...

They better not skimp on the ending. It's been awhile since I cheered as loudly as when I read that part of the novel.

    Indeed.

I watched the first half of Without Remorse and could go no farther. Aside from character names, there is precisely zero resemblance to Tom Clancy's book which was one of my favorites. If the same group were to produce Rainbow Six, I will not watch it. Michael B. is no John Kelly/John Clark and WTF is "Karen Greer." I never cease to be amazed that Hollywood thinks they can "imrove" on great writers' work. As simple good manners, they should remove any mention of Tom Clancy's name from the film.

    Same.
Absolutely nothing like the book. Not even remotely. Change the names and name it seal team 3 and it would be the same movie.

As a reader of most of the Tom Clancy novels. They can be made to tv/movie quite easily. Some changes but mostly faithful. But as said .. Hollywood thinks they can write better.
Not really looking forward to rainbow six.

According to the movie, she's Jim Greer's niece.

So I take it the part in the book where...

Clark interrogates a guy using a portable decompression chamber is nowhere to be found?

That was a pretty harsh & gruesome thing to do, that’s for sure. I remember the whole scene being very well-written in the descriptions.. *shudder*

it was brutal but given who the person was and what they had done it wasn't that easy to feel sympathy for them.

^ Oh yes, most definitely agreeing with you there! Just one part of an overall great book/tale that always stuck with me, that’s all.

The next movie will be The Hunt for Red October, where a bad guy named Red October kills John Clark's partner and Clark vows revenge at any cost, but then gets stuck with a new partner and they don't get along or agree with each other's methods, but by the end of the movie they're buddy buddy.

Given how low-budget this flick sounds, I wouldn't get my hopes up for what would inevitably be a far larger effort, even with significant deviation from the book.

The same Hollywood that wrote fanatic environmentalists for the MCU's biggest bad, the new Godzilla flicks, the first Kingsman, etc.?

You have a point. A true adaptation of the book would require a big movie budget, especially with the big action scenes and the globetrotting around the world. So I would not be surprised if the movie we get ends up being a more low budget movie where they gutter most of the book's plot.

Well the "Vaccinne" part is just mentioned, but yeah, might do some anti vax harm, but this movie isn't even filmed yet, so it'll be atleast another year before release, so by then, covid/vacinnes, etc. will not be a problem.
But they could change it to an areosol version that is contagious, and just have the olympics "bomb"

But Ding wasn't introduced yet, so things will change, and he won't be in charge, he won't know Ryan.. He needs to be on a season with Ryan to do the book justice.
