Watch the video and you tell me.

Edit: Here's the terrible Jerry Meals call I mentioned on the previous page:

Yeah, that's an even more insane bullshit call.

Umps really should get fined for such blatant garbage.

This is why I don't understand the rabid resistance to instant review or, in an ideal world, robo-umps (although the technology for calling balls and strikes accurately still isn't quite there yet). Anyone who thinks that umpires don't allow personal biases to affect the way they call games is deluding themselves--the NFL has relied on subjective calls for literally decades, and an NHL referee got caught on a hot mic like a month ago saying that he issued a penalty to a team because he wanted to. And you can't tell me with a straight face that the call in that Braves / Pirates video was for any reason other than Jerry Meals being tired and wanting to go back to his hotel.

People who think that botched calls are a Good and Necessary part of baseball absolutely mystify me.

Automated strike zone (Skynet™) and a camera over home plate for swing/no swing calls are necessary. But there would still be umps on the field to fuck other calls up. Everything should be reviewable, pace of play be damned.

What's worse is when the replay officials get something blatantly wrong with multiple camera angles and super slo-mo.

And yeah, that interference call in the Milwaukee game was so utterly stupid. Makes you wonder what game that ump was watching, the actual game, or the one playing in his head.

Rizzo on the bump for the Cubs in the seventh inning for the Cubs. No one can convince me that position players pitching isn’t the best thing in baseball.

I thought pitcher dingers were the greatest thing in baseball.

That happened in this game too! Huascar Ynoa hit one and went two for three while striking out 9.

Update. Rizzo strikes out Freeman. Ross pulled Rizzo after getting two outs. Wonder if he was getting irritated by Rizzo’s shit eating grin.

We’ve had Duffy pitch and now Sogard. Only the SS hasn’t pitched yet from the infield.

What the actual fuck was going on in tonight's Phillies game? Bryce Harper leaves the game after getting drilled in the face with a 97 mph fastball from the Cardinals' Genesis Cabrera. Next up is Didi Gregorious, who gets hit in the ribs by Cabrera. Manager Joe Girardi goes out to demand the umpire eject Cabrera and gets tossed out instead. Fortunately they won it 5-3 and Harper should be OK.

I was at a friend's place tonight but my phone was lighting up like a Christmas tree with Twitter updates about that game. I'm looking forward to skimming through it tomorrow morning, because from what I've read it sounds like a clusterfuck and a half.

The Cubs were shut out for the third time on the last four games, so no surprise Ross needed some position pitchers last night. Ant'ny and Freddie were having some fun at least.

As far as Girardi getting tossed instead of the Card's headhunter, more complete umpire bullshit. Manfraud needs to do something that actually needs to get done, and that's getting those fat fucks under control and held responsible for doing their fucking job! That's after the phantom interference call against the Brewhahas pitcher.

I can't believe the Cubs are still over .200 for a team BA after this week. They had a .163 before sweeping the Mets. Must be getting some hits and then that's it.

I was so hoping that the Red-Legs would scha-weep the L.A./Brooklyn Bums so I could play this as a victory dance...

Thanks for taking 2 out of 3 though. It's still early in the season but this Giants/Padres series this weekend will be fun.

Last week the head hunting Cardinals hit Jonathan India of the Reds in the head, and it ended up being the Reds manager getting ejected for it.

Oakland pitcher Jesus Luzardo is on the IL with a fractured pinky finger, sustained from slamming a table while playing a video game.

That's gotta be pretty far up there on the "most bizarre injuries of all time" list.
