This has been my favorite Arrowverse show for the last few seasons, so I'm really looking forward to the new season.
It's the only one I can tolerate watching, anymore. I tuned in to Flash the other night because 90s only to discover no less than 40% of the script was technobabble and exposition. It was pretty bad. But as long as the writers of Legends continue to give no fucks, I'll keep watching. (Unless Lotz leaves, then I'm out either way.)
First impression is the aliens in this new season will be used similar to Magical Beings and “Encores” of past seasons. One off creatures at different points in the past as an excuse for the Legends to visit. This show has become very derivative of itself. You could take scripts from the last few seasons and move to others with minor changes and would hardly make a difference.
Legends, to me, is an example of a show listening too much to its own press. People praised its wackiness, so it leaned hard into that, until being "THE WACKY SHOW" became its raison d'etre. I'm happy for folks who still enjoy it, but it was an easy cut when I eliminated most of the Arrowverse shows from my viewing roster this season.
Exactly how I feel about this show. In another thread the rumor was floated Caity is going to leave. I said the show should end with her. I was trying to be nice to it’s fans. They could end it now and I would not miss it at all. Only watched last season’s finale a few months ago out of curiosity. Might be done with it completely. Its current fans tend to dismiss the early seasons. But at least it was drawing ideas from DC Comics. In terms of regular cast members but villains and storylines too. These aliens seem completely generic. There is decades of comics they could have drawn from.
As much as I love the show, it is kind of odd how they almost seem to go out of their way to not use stuff from the comics. We got a whole season focused on magic, went to hell, and we have Constantine as a regular character, but we never saw any of DC's other magic related character, like Zatanna, Felix Faust, Circe, or Etrigan.
Neron, the big bad of season 4, is a DC character. As is Astra Logue, of course. I think Zatanna and Etrigan were slated for a Justice League Dark film, and thus were off-limits for TV. Felix Faust appeared and died in a Constantine episode, though I guess that wouldn't necessarily preclude his return. But yeah, the Legends producers seem to be happy doing their own original stories and characters, to a greater extent than the other shows. I kind of like the balance of that, actually, since it contrasts with The Flash, which never created an original villain until Sunshine last season (though it did have some radical reinventions of existing ones).
