Spoilers "Supergirl": the 6th and final season

Agreed with all of this.

It was supposed to appear at that point that Lex had lost control and that his ranting had sunk him. Lex himself was surprised to learn that wasn’t the case when the jury ultimately acquitted him. I agree the writing didn’t exactly make that crystal clear, however. Cryer gave it his all, but the trial stuff in general was the weakest part of the episode.

That was his Donald Trump moment I think. The jurors were right though, there was no proof.

Speaking of our Lord Superman, have they told him that his cousin is missing? It is weird how both shows don’t seem to reference each other when it makes sense to do so.
Remember that SG was supposed to air in the fall first, with S&L launching this year. So its likely we won't hear any mentions on either show until later in their seasons.

Oh, good point. Yeah, with all the unpredictable delays from the pandemic, it's best if they don't try to coordinate between shows for a while.

In this interview with Melissa Benoist she admits she lost track of all the different variations of how season 5 was going to end and season 6 start. Due to her pregnancy and the shutdown. She said the one constant was always Kara being sent into the Phantom Zone. How long changed greatly. https://www.google.com/amp/s/ew.com/tv/supergirl-melissa-benoist-season-6-premiere-phantom-zone/?amp=true

so it is the best all these shows avoid referring to events in the others for the time being. We know Superman and Lois had to stop production due to someone testing positive. That is why they have this premature break in airing episodes. Hard to find much info but last November The Flash also stopped production. Likely for shorter time.

They've been doing that. Even Black Lightning.

He made an emergency visit to Allen (off screen, of course), but other than that, season 4 has moved forward with Jefferson never discussing the events of that crossover, aside from saying he was able to visit a multiverse--but never any names, or events. It seems like a way for audiences to forget about it, since it never figured prominently in Black Lightning's season arcs.

Don't mistake dramatic license for ignorance. You can know perfectly well how something works, yet still portray it differently in fiction for the sake of the narrative. For instance, the fact that Superman and Supergirl can fly does not mean the writers of their shows don't know how gravity works. It means they understand they're writing fantasy rather than fact, and thus they feel free to change how it works.

Besides, there's a long, long tradition of unrealistic courtroom procedure in TV and movies. It's far more rare to see it done right. I recall that the Punisher's trial in season 2 of Marvel's Daredevil was particularly absurd in its procedures, which was egregious in a show whose main character was a lawyer.
OK, that's a good point.

That the proper way to acknowledge it's a share universe. "Quiet" mentions.

News time!

Ordinarily, the addition of yet another series regular would fill me with nothing but dismay; the show's cast is already bloated beyond reason, and all the characters they've added post-Nia (Andrea, William, Kelly) have been total and complete zeroes. But this one actually sounds interesting:
Sergeant will play Nyxly, a quirky and kind 5th Dimensional Imp, wrongly imprisoned in the Phantom Zone and driven by tragic backstory. She helps Kara when she least expects it, and their budding friendship not only heals some of Nyxly’s emotional pain, but helps Nyxly reclaim her own power.
(Presumably Thomas Lennon's welcome return as Mxyzptlk will tie into this new character somehow.)

Also, the official synopsis has been released for "Prom Night!" and it sounds great:
Nia (Nicole Maines) and Brainy (Jesse Rath) attempt to save Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) from the Phantom Zone by time traveling back to Kara’s home in 2009. While determined to secure the item needed to help Supergirl, Brainy is worried about keeping a low profile so as not to alter the future timeline. However, when their ship crashes upon arrival, a young Kara Danvers (guest star Izabela Vidovic) is the first on the scene. Meanwhile, a young reporter named Cat Grant (guest star Eliza Helm) sets her sights on Midvale as she suspects there is a big story in the small town.

"Midvale" remains one of my very favorite episodes of the entire series, so I am here for this all day long.

Yeah, Nyxly sounds like she could be a nice addition to the cast, although I am a little surprised to see them adding new regular to the show this close to the finale.
Prom Night sounds like it's got a lot of potential. I didn't realize it was going to be a time travel episode, I had just assumed we'd be getting more flashbacks.

It seems like lately the CW has been using series regular contracts as a way to keep actors for leaving for other projects. Probably not necessary this year due to COVID restrictions, but not a bad policy overall.

Which is not a CW-specific practice or even a recent one. I've been reviewing the 1988-92 Superboy TV series on my Patreon. Robert Levine was a main-title regular in seasons 3-4 (as the Perry White-like boss of the Bureau of Extranormal Matters where Clark and Lana interned), but he was in only 14 of the 26 episodes in season 3 and 7 of the 22 episodes in season 4 (only one more appearance that year than recurring guest Sherman Howard as Lex Luthor). As you say, the regular contract is about ensuring the actor will be available for as long as they're needed, even if it's not every week.

Although I think it's less common these days for an actor to get a screen credit in episodes they don't appear in. You often see a nominal regular only getting credited in the episodes where they do appear. Star Trek: Discovery does that, for one example. I'm not sure which approach the Arrowverse shows use.

I think they tend to credit all of the regulars even if they aren't all in the episode.
I guess the contract thing makes sense.

Supergirl - The Final Season
Season 6 - episode 3 - "Phantom Menaces"

SG/Kara / Alex: As noted in the previous episode, any feelings expressed by Kara or Alex regarding Kara's time in the PZ lacks any impact for real world reasons.

Lex / Lena / Lillian: He has the new district attorney in his back pocket, so that relationship gives him a good amount of protection. Its not a stretch to imagine a late season moment where Luthor--after foiling various attacks by Lena--is set to succeed again, only for Lena--not Supergirl--to be the one to show up just in time to stop the ultimate Luthor move.

Lena cannot be shocked by Lex sending Otis to set the wing of the hospital on fire. She does remember who Lex Luthor is, right?

Brainy: Okay, so he's still dealing with a hostile side of himself; that has to go somewhere other than just ranting and plotting against Lex.

...and Rath's outburst was cringe-worthy.

NOTES: As usual, Cryer is doing all of the acting heavy lifting on this show. He should have been on the show from the start.

The fact Brainy--from the far future--made such a relatively obscure reference to Fal-tor-pan from Star Trek III: The Search for Spock--but it flew right over the heads of people who were part of the time the film was released was amusing.

GRADE: C.

You know what just occurred to me. In the last episode, Brainy said that all the phantom zones from all the multiverse converged into one after Crisis. That means everyone who was sent there in all the DC mediums are in one place. What big villain do we know is there? Faora from Man of Steel. Make it happen Supergirl. :)

That had occurred to me too. But it’s really a question if they are able to go down that road. In terms of being to use film characters but also actor available too. Covid safety protocols likely made it even harder than it was before. Ezra Miller appearing in Crisis was a last minute request by Warner film division, that episode was already finished and that scene was added. So anything is theoretically possible. I suspect the movie people have more power to initiate those things.

That is the tricky thing about dealing with the Multiverse across different media. Sounds good but is hard for real consistency on broad Multiverse wide concepts like the Phantom Zone or the Speed Force. Hard to imagine recent changes in the Speed Force on the CW would effect Ezra Miller’s character at all. My head canon is that the Speed Force is closer to how Supergirl describes the Phantom Zone. Lots of islands in a big body of water. Grant’s Barry sees completely different than other speedsters would. Also that it’s much more complex than he is aware of. Or vice versa.

I wonder if we may see Kara’s Uncle Non from season 1 in the Phantom Zone. Last we saw him it appeared he was blinded. With no further mention of what happened to him afterwards. Seems he would be a perfect candidate to put in the Zone. With the way the timeline has changed after Crisis they could be vague how he got there. It would be a nice connection to the show’s history. So many characters from season 1 were never seen or mentioned again.

I don’t really expect it to happen. Just as well as Faora would probably wipe the floor with her. :)
