News New Old Star Wars Content Coming to Disney+ in April

I like to imagine that the first two seasons and the first episode of season 3 (when Anakin was officially knighted) of Tartakovsky's Clone Wars are still "canon" since I can't think of anything in them that contradicts the current continuity too much*, and provide introductions to Ventress and Grievous.

* Ventress' origin might not entirely line up anymore, but it's been years since I watched the cartoon so I can't remember for sure.

Season 7 of the CG series also references Shaak-Ti trying to protect Palpatine, which was shown in the 2D series.
There's also a reference in the series to Windu being on Dantooine and taking heavy loses.
One of the new canon novels, (I think Tarkin?) makes a reference to a crashed Acclimator on a planet I don't remember the name of, an episode of the 2D series had a battle there, with a crashed Acclimator where Grevious slaughtered everyone, including poor Shaggy.

As for me I do have some nostalgia for the old Droids cartoon which is on Youtube but I wouldn't mind seeing a nice cleaned up transfer.
Since they've added Ewoks, I'm hoping that means Droids will follow sometime soon. They seem pretty much always be paired up, so I find it hard to believe they'd add one, but not the other.
I am curious what the video quality for the Ewoks show and movies is going to be like. As far as I know they've never been released in anything higher than a DVD quality, so I'm wondering if they actually took the time to upgrade them to full HD or just left them at the best resolution they had .
I have to confess, I actually enjoyed the Holiday Special when I watched it a while back. Not because I actually thought it was good, but just because it was so bad, and so completely bonkers, I couldn't help but enjoy it.

The episode in which Ventress first appears and the immediate follow-up (S1 E6 and E7) are two of the several outstanding episodes of the micro-series.

And as far as I know, there's no direct contradiction to what was seen in TCW. IIRC the flashback/vision goes straight from the death of her master and going all berserker mode on the pirates, to her kneeling before Dooku as he accepts her as an apprentice. Her first appearance in SWCW fits more or less right in between those events. Again though, the depiction is still in the amped up, deliberately overblow Genndy Tartakovsky signature style, so if TCW or even live action were to depict it, it would look a lot less crazy but I think the salient points (infiltrating and totally owning the tournament) would be essentially the same. The thing on Yavin IV might be the same too since in TCW, it's clearly not the first time they've run into each other, or probably even the second.

Clone Wars Animated was amazing.
I love the Ewok movies from when I was a kid. Lucas wrote the first one, so it at least is always gonna be canon with me.

According to StarWars.com these are being called The Vintage Star Wars Collection, and they were added today. The article also says that Droids will be added later this year. I minute or two from Caravan of Courage and one of the Ewoks episodes, and it does look like they've been cleaned up a little, but it didn't look like they were quite HD.
They also have the Clone Wars micro series edited together into two 1 hourish volumes, rather than all of the separate shorts.

I think the Clone Wars DVDs were edited like that too, no doubt they used the same masters.

The Ewok movies have been released on DVD too so probably the same situation there.

Droids and Ewoks were never released in full on DVD (only as two compilations made up of 4 or so episodes each) so those would've required the most work.

Finally. It's long overdue. It deserves more recognition. It was the show that first brought Asajj Ventress to the screen.
It was also the first time we got to see General Grievous. It was a nice series to tide you over while waiting for ROTS to be released.

I much preferred the Grievous voice in that series. I remember at the time Gary Oldman was supposed to do the voice in the movie but pulled out because he was part of the actors guild.

I preferred that version of Grievous period over what we got in ROTS. The Grievous I saw in that first clone wars cartoon was dangerous and not someone you would want to mess with. The Grievous I saw in ROTS was simply a coward who always ran away.

And easily beaten. He was a real danger in the first Clone Wars cartoon. I felt the voice had a lot to do with his dangerous atmosphere.

According to an article on Io9 a whole bunch of old Star Wars content will be coming to Disney+ next month, including the animated short from The Holiday Special that introduced Boba Fett. They will also be adding the Ewoks movies, the Ewoks animated series, and the Gendy Tartakovsky Clone Wars micro-series. This is great news, I've been wanting to watch and rewatch all of these for along time now, but I hadn't expected to to actually add them to Disney+. Since they're adding the Ewoks show, then hopefully that means they'll eventually add the Droids show too.
Oh, and just to clarify, they're only adding the animated short, not the whole Holiday Special.
I've tried to watch the Holiday Special on youtube. Key word "TRIED" because it really is god awful. The cartoon is the only thing decent from the special. Good call on Disney's part.
