Cubs send Nico Hoerner to the minors and name David Bote to 2B. Not a terrible decision, despite Nico hitting .361 in ST.

Adbert Alzolay named the #5 starter with Alec Mills in the pen. This is a head-scratcher. Alzolay has looked like shit most of the spring.

    Released: Cameron Maybin
Assigned to minor league camp: Shelby Miller, Pedro Strop and others. Strop hasn't looked to good either. There was a reason we cut him after 2019. He was burnt out then and still is. Looking way too hittable.

The Cubs need to keep Hoerner in the minors for 36 days to gain an additional year of service time control on him. Alzolay is more of a head-scratcher but Ross loves him and Mills is a prime candidate to turn into a pumpkin given his low velocity.

The service time thing for Hoerner was mentioned in the espn.com article, but I wondered if they'd be that obvious again.

Wake me up when a player wins a service time grievance against his team, unfortunately. The Cubs are playing this one smarter than they did the Bryant thing, at least, not saying that Hoerner needs to "work on his defense" or whatever; Ross' statement was all about how Bote had won the job.

Y'all are getting farther off the beaten path, but whatever. The new thread goes up March 31, I have the first draft of the OP done, I just need to revise it. :)

Damn...was kinda hoping the Mets would re-sign Jerry Blevins. :(

^ IIRC, Blevins has said he would retire if the Mets didn't bring him back.

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but the Dodgers’ line-up is ridiculous.

Got the Mets/Cards game on now...

Normally I wouldn’t mind having to listen to the away team’s radio feed. But in this case, Mike Shannon’s beginning to get on my nerves, he sounds like he’s asleep! Cardinals might want to jab him in the ribs to wake him up.

Edit: I'm fairly sure no player has ever gone straight to the majors after being drafted...but Jack Leiter may be the first

I have the new OP for the new season thread written, but I'm spending a few days in the hospital for a minor procedure that should relieve a lot of the chronic pain in my leg / abdomen. So if I don't have it up right at 12:01 a.m. on April 1, hold your horses, I'll get it posted soon.

Also, Anthony Rizzo has ended contract talks with the Cubs. Reportedly the final offer the team made was 5/70, which is just insulting. Fucking Cubs.

I'm guessing it's the $ part you find insulting? Ant'ny is worth more than $14M a year, but do you give him Trout money and then be unable to pay anyone else?
