What chemistry would Mulgrew and Brooks have? The scenes between Picard and Sisko are compelling, but it seems that they exploit the tension between the actors, even in the end when Sisko shows some deference to Picard. Following from The Captains, I would suspect that Shatner and Brooks would have worked well together. Conversely, I could see PIcard and Janeway collaborating, and the two would work well together had they acted together at the same time. Shatner and Mulgrew seems like a disaster, especially after The Captains, where it seems at times the two talked past one another.

It's not that they would have been bad, it's just that they really had little to discuss. Sisko's feelings toward the Maquis didn't really heat up until Eddington turned on him. By comparison, the scene we got was perfect for Tom, Quark, and Harry.

She asked me if she could have the replicator recipe, and she immediately added that she was disastrous with a replicator, having incinerated an entire pot roast only a few weeks before. Somehow, I don't think we're the same type. If she is as injudicious as a Captain, I fear she might get the ship lost somewhere in the galaxy on her very first trip or some such thing. Sisko out.

I could see a dinner between Sisko and Janeway happening off camera. Or maybe a breakfast meeting, with raktijino for him and black coffee for her. It would be cordial, witty, and perfectly platonic. Janeway had a fiancee at home, after all.

I've tweaked it in an effort to make it more consistent with what I remember of Ben's speech patterns, though it has been a few years...

Ah, thank you for your tweaks, much appreciated! Yes, I see how that would be better (besides the obvious errors such as if/whether, that's one I tend to overlook whenever I'm not paying enough attention)..

TNG got a sendoff from McCoy.
DS9 got a sendoff from Picard.
TNG movies got a sendoff from Kirk.
VOY got a sendoff from... Quark.

It could have been worse. I don't remember if Worf was on DS9 at the time of "Caretaker" but if he was, and if he was the one meeting and greeting and looking down his nose at Tom and Harry, he would have found some pretext to board the ship and then he would have eaten another series.

Thank goodness for Quark.

Not really. He lost a close friend when his ship went missing early in the war, and he was helpless.
