News The Disney+ (The New Streaming Service) Thread

I have a feeling they're probably going to be quicker to put Marvel stuff on there, than standalone stuff like Terra Nova.
Anybody watched Earth to Ned? I've been meaning to check it out since I'm a big Henson fan, but I haven't gotten a chance to yet.

Marvel has released the first trailer for Behind the Mask, and this actually looks really interesting. I wasn't sure what to make of it from the description, but after seeing the trailer, now I'm really looking forward to it.

Looking through The Muppet Show listings the guest list is soooooo 70s, it's glorious. I ended up watching the one with Debbie Harry and the video quality looks great to me. Statler and Waldorf are my spirit animals.

Watched Cool Runnings and Glory Road. Both I had never seen before. Cool Runnings wasn't really funny at all and saying it was loosely based on the Jamaican bobsled team is an understatement to say the least.

Glory Road was a great film however. And I learned quite a bit from watching this movie.

I haven't watched Cool Runnings since I was a kid, but I loved it then.
Decided to just go through The Muppet Show in order, so I started with the George Burns episode, which was the first on of Season 2. I already watched Season 1 back when it came out on DVD, so I decided to skip it for now.
The 4th and 5th seasons were never released on VHS or DVD, so I this is the first time they've been available to watch since they aired on TV.

I think there are a lot of sketches with over the top stereotypes.
I'm fine with a warning as long as it means they aren't cutting things out.

Like I said before, I'm pretty sure there are some songs and skits with what are now considered offensive stereotypes, so I'm happy to get a warning if means we actually get to see them, and it keeps the internet from having a meltdown over them.

The Muppet Show will run with an offensive content disclaimer.

The article doesn't indicate exactly what is deemed offensive, but it does state that the show has included racial stereotypes and has Johnny Cash sing a song in front of a Confederate flag.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading awhile back (whenever it was first announced the show would finally arrive on Disney+) that there would be a disclaimer specifically for the Johnny Cash episode. In that particular case, I think such a disclaimer is warranted.

I watched a couple of episodes on the day the show dropped (Harry Belafonte and Star Wars) and there was no disclaimer for those, so I assume it's only for very specific situations. Other than the Cash episode, I can't think where else it may needed to be used.

I have Johnny Cash on video, and I honestly didn't know the significance of the Confederate Flag until long after I last saw it. But then, I'm not American.

That said, it must have been about five years ago I went to a country music concert (in the UK), and I was surprised to see some Confederate Flag merchandise on sale.

Variety's article has a full list of episodes which have the disclaimer:

The disclaimer has been added to a total of 18 episodes throughout the show’s five seasons, including those guest hosted by Jim Nabors, Joel Grey, Steve Martin, Peter Sellers, Cleo Laine, James Coco, Spike Milligan, Crystal Gayle, Kenny Rogers, Beverly Sills, Jonathan Winters, Alan Arkin, James Coburn, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, Debbie Harry, Wally Boag and Marty Feldman. The label has been added to each episode for a different reason; but for example, during Cash’s episode, he sings in front of a confederate flag. The disclaimer appears at the beginning of these episodes for 12 seconds.
