General Trek Questions and Observations

As a 6-year member of the Harry Potter fandom, I can tell you that Trek has NOTHING on that group for weird shipping arrangements.

Perhaps it's an idea for a fun topic, 'Come up with the least likely /most absurd pairings for shippers', but quite probably, that has already been done on this board repeatedly, too.

You think lines were the ONLY things Umbridge had Harry doing in her office? ;)

Ewww... yeah, that's a gross one. Our site only permitted intergenerational romance if the younger player was 17 or older... but some did not.

If you want to make it really weird, just take all the characters in Trek and pit them in a basket. Only rules are:
1. Sentients only, so omit Spot, Porthos, and Livingston.
2. If you include dead characters, the story must occur when they were alive.
3. If you include children, the story must occur when they reach adulthood.
4. If you get two relatives (Lwaxana and Deanna for instance), discard second pick and try again.

With perversions eliminated, pick two characters at random and try to imagine them as a couple...

That's quite the conundrum

I am sure there were lots of Janeway/Chakotay shipping fans. But it would be highly inappropriate for a captain and her first officer to be romantically involved. Janeway's supposed to be all "we will be a starfleet crew following starfleet standards of behavior..." Even if it does take the 87 years to get home, and another 87 years to fill out the reports Starfleet would ask for.

It would be, but the classic shipping in Trek fandom (or, at least, slash fandom) is Kirk/Spock. Janeway/Chakotay is just a mild, more heterosexual version with some episodic evidence ("Resolutions") of an actual attraction between the two at one point in time.

I've never heard anything about Picard/Riker (that'd be a strange one) or even Sisko/Kira (odd... that seems like something that could have been a thing), but they also flirted with the idea with Archer/T'Pol in some Enterprise Season 1 and 2 episodes, most noticeably "A Night in Sickbay", but that just appeared to be a minor attraction on Archer's part and not reciprocated in any way (and later, T'Pol was paired off with Trip).

My proposed version of the game deletes perversions. You may play any way you wish.

Rule 34 applies to shippers, nay made for/by shippers. Not a game I play, but boy have I seen a few. I've yet to see anyone and the ship's computer, but anything is possible.

Do you think it’s possible with the universal translator to choose which accent others hear when you speak to them?

Since it can change your language, wouldn’t it be reasonable to believe you could change your accent or dialect as well?

I was just thinking about how Picard and Troi both have accents that don’t match their family or place of origin. Maybe that’s why.

Voyager had at least three opportunities to get home safely. Maybe four.

1. Use Tom's warp 10 engine. Upon safe return to Alpha quadrant, use the Doctor's method to de-salamanderize everyone. Might have to confine everyone to quarters to prevent an amphibian orgy, but easily doable.
2. Use quantum slipstream drive in short bursts. It seems to work Ok for the first 5000 ly or so. Twelve of those and you're home in time for dinner.
3. Janeway bangs fingers with Q.

4 (possibly). Tell the Think Tank you know what they did, and tell them they have to solve a problem they didn't create: they get Voyager home, and 7 will join their group. She might fit in surprisingly well with a bunch like that.

If the ship's computer can control the holodeck/holosuite, that could work out okay.

Perhaps. The translator has to use some dialect, so why shouldn't you be able to choose?

I figured Picard learned English in school, and English as a second language is usually taught with an English Received Pronounciation dialect, so that's not the translator, it's him. But the crew who don't really speak English are probably using the translator all the time: Troi, Worf, the Klingons, Romulans, Ferengi, etc.

We don't know all that happened while Picard was in the computer, or while Barclay was the computer... ;)

I don't think they were around after the end of that episode. I think they are dead

Because Voyager basically tricked them and then threw them to the wolves. Served them right for the crap they pulled.
