It's irritates me when people say the Enterprise D was taken out buy a 70 yr old Bird Of Prey

What was wrong was the lack of "Cyber Security".

Nobody bothered to inspect Geordi's Visor, to make sure it wasn't infected with Malware.

If they did that, the Enterprise-D wouldn't have been destroyed.

It's a very expensive / hard lesson that the Federation has to learn when recovering equipment / people from the field.

I had the same thought! After all they had been through AND Geordi knowing full well his visor had been removed by Soran, how could he not think to have it checked out . This is where my facepalm emoji would come in handy. lol

If it was me, I'd have "Multiple VISORS" locked up in my quarters, if one got taken away from me, or potentially tampered with, I'd have the IT staff take their time to disect it and use a backup VISOR.

true. On one hand very few people have multiple pairs of new glasses for this purpose (it’s pretty common to keep old ones around, though), so maybe the VISOR is too difficult to produce to make many, on the other hand I can’t really imagine this to be true in the society shown in TNG..

Especially with Replicators and countless energy sources & material tanks.

well, it’s really the ent-d set, even the LCARS are 24th century. Luckily it’s only a very brief shot.

About the Generations novelization, I have the Italian version in paperback, Scotty and Chekov there but the original ending, with Kirk shot in the back, also I remember a scene with Chekov contacting sulu to tell him that Kirk is missing.

It also goes in much more detail on what happens to Kirk in the nexus: turns out that Antonia was only one of countless fantasies he went trough during the decades, he’s not really “just arrived” when picard shows up in this version.
I think there was a saucer separation practice drill on the Excelsior when Sulu gets the phone call about Kirk. I also remember the scene with the nanoprobe where Soran tortures Geordi by stopping his heart and then restarting it and basically saying he's going to do this until La Forge breaks. That shit was nuts!

Especially as I'm fairly sure Geordie mentions having had an "older version" of the VISOR in at least one episode…It would at the very least make sense for him to keep the old VISOR around just in case!

Just about any ship could be taken out by an old Bird-of-Prey if it fires back only once like the Enterprise did until they got the enemy's shields down. It's been a long time since I watched that abomination of a movie but if memory serves Riker didn't order much resistance. Then there's the "maybe they fired off screen" thing but the point must have been to get the next movie a new movieship.
